Heading down to Coed y Brenin tomorrow.  Has anyone ridden the diverted Beast route (avoiding Pink Heifer & Big Doug, which are closed for felling)?

I'm thinking the best option would be to start the climb up towards Pink Heifer but then branch left instead of right on the fire road, climb up to the T-junction and turn right to head towards the mid-point cafe.  I'd then have the option of turning right to go and do Hermon, or simply continuing up to the start of the Adams Family.

Just wondering if the actual diverted route is different to this and, if so, whether its better/worse than my planned option in terms of limiting non-singletrack riding?

Think I've answered my own question with Strava.  Looks like with the diversion you just climb past the start of Pink Heifer and carry straight on down a bridleway to come out near the fireroad/road crossroads near the start of Hermon, so a slightly better option than my plan.

Hmmm I was planning on going there Sunday but didn’t realise there were diversions. With a three hour drive, will it still be worth the costs...

Most of that bit of the loop is fireroad climbing. The only thing I would do is make sure that I didn't backtrack or do extra climbing for the little singletrack section halfway up the fireroad section (Beefy?) as it isn't worth it. Either straight to Hermon or better still, straight to Addams Family.

Still worth it IMO.  It looks like the diversions in place actually slightly improve the ratio of singletrack : linking roads.  It obviously cuts down the route distance by quite a chunk, but you can just tag on something like Tarw Du.  The affected sections of trail (Pink Heifer & Big Doug) are nice sections of trail, but not (IMO) the highlights.

My plan for tomorrow is to do the Beast with the diversions and taking the shortcut from the mid-point cafe up to the top of Adams Family, avoiding the long pointless fireroad loop.  I'll then do Tarw Du, but turning right at the bottom of the singletrack descent part of Rocky Horror Show (instead of climbing to the left) and rejoining at Mantrap.  Again, this cuts out a section of pointless fireroad.

I can send you a GPX after I've ridden tomorrow if that's any help.
