You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
For my 40th (quite a long way off)!I'm thinking of organising a trip to the Alps for some riding, boozing and a bit of parting. There will be approx 20 of us,some bikers, some wives/girlfriends and some kids.
What is the riding like?We will be on 6" bikes, probably riding some lift assisted singletrack ,XC etc.
We will be going early Sept,i've read the weather is usually a bit better in the Italian alps that time of year?
Thanks in advance John.
Pila, excellent riding, something for everyone to ride, would be easily fine on 6" bikes.
Only thing o watch is if you are in the gondola and it does an emergency stop, serious brown pants moment as the gondola swings back n forth
Cheers mate, had a few hairy moments like that whilst snowboarding.
Its excellent John loads of tracks usually dusty dry
It is a fantastic place to ride, we've been for the last few years, it'll easily fill 3-4 days riding. A full week will still be fun though. It's best to stay down in aosta rather than pila itself as it's very very quiet in summer in the town. There is also more to do for those who don't ride and the gondola runs right down to aosta so getting up is no hassle at all.
Very good restaurants in Aosta too.
Cheers for the info guys.
creaser- is that you Martin?
Absolutely love Pila ! Ridings awesome, we had horrendous mud/rain, dry and dusty, hail and thunderstorms and then got sunburnt. Not bad in a four day trip. As said before, there are plenty of excellent bars and restaurants in Aosta especially the old town. Looking forward to going back
Again. excellent riding. steep and dusty. just make sure the lifts are still operating in Sept.
Enjoy
Yes mate its Martin how it going? ..... you'll love it there i've been 6 times never gets boring the freeride run back down to Aosta is amazing, main gondola closes at dinner time for about an hour and half so dont do a run about that time
www.pila.it
should be plenty of info on there
We've stopped in a hotel in Pila a few times it was very nice and 20 euro's each per night
www.planbois.it is web i think
Fantastic place! lots of well kept well marked dh runs and a superb freeride trail to Aosta at the base. 11km or so 🙂

The run down to Aosta from pila is very very good. Damn I wanna go back.
Thanks folks,Pila it it.
Which is the best airport to arrive?
Turin/torino. I've got a train from there to aosta on way to courmayeur, or maybe it was bus, can't remember!
Or it's about a 2 hour drive from Geneva through the Mt Blanc tunnel. Just been there for the day from Annecy. Not riding unfortunately - wife is Italian so had a lovely lunch in town then stocked up on Italian food/booze in the hypermarket at the bottom of the Pila gondola!
Actually I did ride for an hour, but just the free tourist bikes around down with my daughter - **** me they must be made of lead!
