I've got the chance of a discounted EX29er but without the opportunity if a test ride.

Currently I've for a Superfly hardtail which I love and I'm thinking the EX would compliment this nicely for days to Wales/Peaks etc

Can anyone sum up what the EX is like?

Hi
Don't know how relevant it is but I have a Superfly 100 29er and really like it
Have changed a few bits from standard
Like Hope wheels, 120mm forks,a reverb and some750mm bars but it was fine as it was-just personal preference.
Makes an excellent trail bike and belies its travel.
Not sure about tackling big stuff at any speed but for general riding iirs spot on
Cheers
Steve

I had a 26" ex that pedalled excellently, the aps rear axle/pivot free floater design really works well

I've got a Rumblefish 29er 120mm travel. Think it sort of preceded the EX29. I've also got a Superfly hardtail for comparison.

I love em both and think the Ex will give you the chance of enjoying away days more. Just one word of advice. The FS may have a smidge shorter reach than the same sized hardtail. Not quite a whole size down, just somewhere in between, and easily sorted with stem / bars.

FWIW, I don't mind this as it makes it more chuckable.

Rode this all over the UK both natural and trail centre. In the Alps too, both natural and the odd downhill. Never had an issue, just soaks it up. Equally at home on any xc loop.

I have a superfly 29er great bike not enough travel for bigger stuff. But do have a 26"2013 EX8 which is a heavier bike but much better for the big stuff like D/Hill runs jumps etc.I brought my 29er for more open going.EX8s are great all round bikes.Go for it.

I've ridden the EX 9 and the EX9.8. The 9 is a fabulous bike, it still hold a PB on one of my local descents. The previous advice that the top tubes are shorter than the Trek hardtails is spot on. I'd describe the EXs as an all day bike, very comfortable. G2 geometry is confidence inspiring, puts your centre of gravity nice and low. I found the 9.8 a little bit too rigid for my taste and didn't feel much lighter either. The biggest point for me was the chain stay length. It's not the shortest, but I guess that's why they felt so comfortable. If you like to throw your bike about then I'd look elsewhere, if you want to cover some miles in comfort then go for it.

I had one as a week long test bike. I loved the way it rode. I was much faster on the ex9 29er. I decided that the front end was just a bit short on travel and ordered the remedy9 29. I've had it a year. I've ridden in the alpes, local trails. It's been trashed and nothing has broken. Go for it you won't regret it.
