I have most of the bits of a SRAM X9 groupset that I amy donate to my 09 Zesty. Just wondering if there is any implication of the rear mech not fitting underneath the little carbon protector piece that the current Shadow rear mech fits nicely under ?
Anyone done it ? Can you space out the deflector or is it something you have to manage without ?

Having seen a few mechs ripped off Lap's where the guard remains untouched I'd say that it's not a vital part of the bike.

I had X9 on my Spicy, the wing did interfere slightly so I removed it. Would have needed more washers than the bolts would have coped with, so I just abandoned it at that point.

I thought the wing would be useless, but mine has some good old gouges in it since I went back to Shimano, so something must be hitting it.

It hits slightly on mine but flexes enough not to upset the mech. It appears mine has a fair few scrapes on it too so they must done something

Yep, I did it. Had to remove the carbon mech guard as it just wouldn't allow full movement.

Aside from that it was fine.

I reckon if I had an extra bit sticking out my frame, it would have a few gouges in it as well. Doesn't mean it's saving the mech. Probably a reason the no one else fits them to their frames.
