Seen it played, looked too much of a recipe for smashed shins & ankles for me!

Used to.

Jolly good laugh, and a good workout too.
You need a specific bike (fixed wheel, cropped bars at the minimum). Some players take it very seriously: one guy came from Arkansas to Stirling for a match!

great fun, there are quite a few groups out there. Lots of one-handed bike work- make sure you don't have any sharp bits on the bike - i.e chainrings without a bashguard or at least a chain on are a big no-no, as are disk brakes without covers. Expect to retension/rebuild wheels regularly.

Aye - you're right: allows a shot through your own wheels!

yeah, used to play regularly. Where about do you live?

It's not hipster rubbish like the reputation says, some pretty high levels of skills required. If you can turn tighter than others you have the upper hand; so this means lots of wheelie-turns, endo turns, 180 hops etc from the better players.

I live in tamworth just north of birmingham. I've found some guys on lfgss that play regular near kingheath, so I might go and have a look.

I've got a ss pompino that might be suitable if I change the drop bars. It's got a flip flop hub so I could ride it fixed but tbh I'm not a very good fixie rider so I'm not sure that would end well.

I've always secretly hankered after a charge plug but never had a reason to buy one.... N+1 right?

Just spotted this while searching for a pompino - mattk I play in Birmingham, come by one of our sessions any time (we usually play wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, but check the lfgss forum to confirm before making the journey as sometimes hangover or weather makes us cancel)

We'll lend you a bike to have a go for your first few times, but converting a pompino is relatively cheap (low gear, strong wheels etc).
