I've always had one pace when riding , I don't do fast twitch but I can plod away all day at the same boring pace . I just don't get the obsession with how fast can you do this Strava segment etc Each to their own I guess but I always enjoy having a look round while I'm out and any fitness gain is secondary to me . Anybody else ?

Yeah glacial pace. I have a Diesel engine, not fast but I go forever.

Most of the time, something’s I’m quicker than others but I rarely go more than 8/10ths. I’ve had one big crash too many and nearly lost an arm, I’m not going through all that again for the sake of another second here or there on Strava, it’s hardly accurate anyway - I ride side beside with mates most weekends - there’s usually a K or so distance between use supposedly and 50m or so verticle - and I should worry about a second here or a second there.

There's a reason I'm a brand ambassador for Fat Lad at the Book.

Same here.

I'm slower than a tax rebate but can pedal all day

I'm not particularly fast and I tire easily. I don't ride to break speed or endurance records, I ride because I enjoy it and it gets me fitter.

Not fast now (was quickish, never ‘proper’ fast, too old skool), usually on my single speed and like to stop now and then to look at the view. Didn’t break any bones in first thirty odd years of riding, then three breaks in two years once 50. Now a few years on and none have mended well and I’m definitely feeling my age now a days but still love riding.

My overtaken overtake ratio is about 5 to 1. Fast makes my knee hurt and if I was in a rush I'd take the car.

XC or trail riding I'm fine, generally mid pack or towards the front. DH and I'm at the back. Used to be one of the faster riders everywhere but one too many crashes leading to carrying a few injuries longterm has slowed me down.

i am now pretty steady. slowed down a lot over the last 6 years.

But

"I May Be Ugly"

With a face like a crab's bus ticket
And skin like a llama's door mat
He was always gonna struggle
Nature had seen to that

He dreamt of those old-fashioned movies
Where Bogart gets the dame
But a lorry load of Lorre
Is still the score of pain

And he sings
I may be ugly
But I've got the bottle-opener
He may be fat but he's got the cork-screw
And in the party party politics of this ugly fame
There is no orderly queue

With a chin like a tramp's juke-box
And eyes like a rhino's ash-tray
It was always going to be pantomime
That made him sing and dance anyway

When you feel like London
And you look like Hull
You think Travolta pulled Newton - John
Who did John Hurt pull?

And they compliment the compliment
And it's driving you insane
It's like talking to a helicopter
When you know that you're a plane

Breath like a mountain goat's satchel
Nose like a pool of sick
But you always leave your flies ahoy
'Cause the world wants to suck your dick
Let it suck!

And he sings
I may be ugly
But I've got the bottle-opener
He may be fat but he's got the cork-screw
And in the party party politics of this ugly fame
There is no orderly queue

Dead last uphill, every time. 😀 Even if I have a head start. I'm faster than them on the couch though.

Pfft, amateurs.

After years of training I managed dead last at this year's Hit the North.
That's proper slow, officially timed and hundreds of witnesses.
Even Binners finished before me.
😀

So unless anyone can prove otherwise, you're all faster than me.

Finally, something I'm good at....
🙂

I’m not fast, I’m over weight and unfit but love getting out on the bike, all climbs it’s lowest gear and plot along

Slow?... sometimes you need to look at me .... look away... wait a moment ... then look back at me to see if I've moved.

Mmmmm, vaguely remember having cat like reflexes, which seemed to have vanished when approaching mid 40s, definitely need that twitch for when things go a little wrong and like lionheart after year of close calls and near misses managed to break a few bones later in life 🙂

I've always been slow uphill though, due to having "big bones" 🙂

I'm like an electric car lacking speed, handling and range

I can't really run. Well I did manage one 5km this Year but dodgey ankles make that a first this century

I'm not a great swimmer either

But I did do triathlon this year

I just love getting out and doing stuff

There's a 'bimble' thread, you know?

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/the-bimble-thread/page/8

Bimbling's great. I like to take a flask of tea and some shortbread when I potter out.

Diesel!

yes.

But downhill:

Diesel without brakes.
😈

When going slow so: bit surprised then that this is also lots of fun.
Like meditation or yoga.

like this as well.

Binners not weighed in yet?

I can't understand how he's so slow, he rides loads 🙂

Although to be fair without the fags he might've improved.

I'm pretty slow myself (a contributor to the above mentioned Bimble thread and not the Properly Fast one). I'm 50, only moderately fit and ridding a steel 29er with rack and mudguard that weighs in at a portly 28lbs+ (my rucksack with tools, D-lock and assorted bobbins weighs a ton too); I'm not exactly built for speed.

I enjoy my cycling though which is what matters.

In my racing "career" I was lapped whilst on my first lap at the puffer - by about 20 folk 🙂 Now thats properly slow. Why hurry a nice race?

Only just. 😆

I've been out of action for nearly 4 months and in that time haven't been able to do much exercise, and now I'm harbouring the mother of all colds so at the moment I'm on the static side of sluggish.

Pfft, you got classified... 😉

I was so slow in my seeding run (dead last, including the girls and kids) of my first race that come race day I marshalled...

Hi, my name is James and I am slow.
I have been slow for a long time

The only organised cycling event I have ever entered had reported me missing when I made it to the finish.
