my eldest daughter is looking at a 5 spot 2010 s/h model, all the reviews rave in general, are they all turner fan boi's?
Anyone not like their turner and why?
She has ridden turner HL links in old burner/xce/rfx models, all owned in our house.
I did not like the flux DW link, run in 100mm and 130mm modes, she thinks I am biased against DW links
She wants a 28lbs roughly trail machine...no heavier she has a new xt set 9 speed ....so 120 plus travel front and back
so any one not like their 5spot?
What didn't YOU like about the DW Flux?
sorry.....should have mentioned that...
DW link, struggled to get the suspension correct, always felt like it 'there', tried a coil amd liked it on the bike, disappointed with climbing feel never what I expected, generally DW link seemed to skip over the terrian most of the time rather than track.Just felt better systems out there, at the time had a Maverick as well and that was a better system (could be my limited skills as well)
The frame size, always felt cramped on recommended size and I was a the bottom end on the scale recommended.
The flux was just okay not what I wanted at the time, and had and have ridden suspension I liked better, giant mastero system, maverick, yeti single pivot, horst link (turner/titus and nicolai)all owned and tried Ibis DW Mojo compleyely different feel.
I like my DW Flux but only had it 5 months. My HL Flux snapped after 6 busy years (seat tube, fairly common problem). I only stayed Turner as was given a replacement deal and not sure what else to buy as less choice in the 100- 120 mm market (less an issue for a 5 Spot).
The DW is OK, probably better than HL as less slumping, a more platform type ride. Overall it is just a v good bike but then so are most bikes these days. I think we just like to buy something that is a bit more rare and the detailing is fantastic. The DW frame is bad for catching and holding mud.
bit of a bump for evening crowd
I had one and thought it was ok. DT himself recommended me a large and with hindsight it was too big, although the medium felt too small when I demo'd it, so maybe I'm just between sizes.
I like DW bikes, and have had 3 (2x Ibis Mojos and the DW 5-Spot). I like the way the suspension is designed to "prop" the bike up when under power, eg climbing. That said, you def know you are riding a bike with character to it's suspension, whereas the classic 4-bar design just disappears into the background.
