Gonna be out there for a couple of weeks in summer visiting my friend.
Looks like a party/outdoor activities town. Reading up, it seems that there is mountain biking but the bikes etc are a bit ropey.
Anyone been and have first hand experience?
I was there about 12 years ago and the bikes were ropey then but hopefully they'll have improved. I was cycle touring with a mate and remember Banos as being the place we had a pretty interesting experience with a landslide. And a great New Year's Eve party where they burnt effigies of their fave figures of the previous year
Yeah, it looks like a cool place - I expect to enjoy muchos fiesta!
My pal is travelling around S. America so going to meet him. Hopefully he should know the ropes.
Hi,
I am from Ecuador and the MTB scene is booming at the moment. I have a bike down there, but it is a bit out of date, so when I was there I looked for a few people that did tours. The best I found was a chap called Mateo Cuesta. mateocuesta@gmail.com or call him on +593993210628 for his mobile or +59322568323. This is his MTB list:

** note with this biking dutchman company. Be sure you go to the AM section. The other MTB section is very amateurish, and you will not get a very good bike.
I took out his Giant Reign LRG and it was very well maintained and kitted out. The one thing to be careful out there is the breaks are the other way around, so make sure you swap them over before you start.
If you are traveling around Ecuador, I would also highly recomend you do the Cotopaxi volcano.
Thanks for the info Vino
I'll look this guy up
