Morning,
Am looking at trying to fit full length mud guards to my planet x uncle Jojn. Anyone managed it? Which mud guards did you use and how did you manage to bodge them on? Pics would be great.
Am I fighting a loosing battle and should I just give up and buy a winter road bike I can fit proper guards to?
I use these a Zefal Croozer Road Front Mudguard and a Zefal Swan Road Rear Mudguard on a Gaint Seek 2 and I'm happy enough.

But it's a cross bike, you're supposed to get it all muddy? 😉
i seem to be riding my cross bike more on the roads now, umming and arring with just getting rid of it for a road bike that i can put full guards on.
Danny do you not find you get the ride into the spray going forward? I have the same rear guard, i suppose it is just the front guard that is insufficient.
anyne else managed?
Put some SKS chromoplastics on. If you can't fit mudguards to a cyclocross bike, I politely suggest you take it to a shop 😉 . Go for the medium width, as you'll want to run 28c plus tyres. To be honest fitting guards can be a fiddly job.
djaustin- think i tried the SKSs a few years ago and all the grit and dirt got underneath were they attached to the seatstays and wore a load of paint away. The front guard finished before the forks so where ok for keeping feet dry but got a lot of forward spray as there was no guard infront of the fork.
Hmmmm - looks like i am going to be going to sell the crosser then and buying a proper winter bike..... anyone wand a Uncle John?
The front guard isn't perfect but it works pretty well with the front butted right up against the headtube which I can manage on the Seek 2.

Erm, yes. It really isn't diffcult. The lack of a chainstay bridge was the only minor issue.
I use mine exclusively as a commuter/audax machine, so ridden in torrential rain. I suggest you get some traditional mudguards with flaps and fit them close enough to the tyre that they work.
The clearances in a UJ can work to your advantage too - I've ridden mine 'guarded up with 35c spikes on, no clogging.
marionheck - I had same problem as you with SKS Raceblades on my Jake - they rubbed the seatstays where the rubber fittings attached. I have been using the Zefal ones that Danny has for a while now and they sem ok - not as good as full guards but good compromise. i can use them with road 28c tyres, hybrid 32's or cx 35's
New UJ has à chainstay bridge but no rear canti hanger.
raceblades are shite
buy some chromoplastics and come to my gaff - ill get them on there nicely for you 😉

Those were raceblade removable. Get some proper fixed chromoplastics that mount with stays to the forks and chainstay lugs. They'll be just right!
trailrat - your on..... will give you a ring soon......
Will have to be monday onwards dave im going to borders for weekend.
