Morning all

Due to my usual riding finesse (think drunk hippo in a shopping trolley) I've managed to put a mahoosive ding in my rear wheel. Its the above-mentioned Bontrager and its beyond repair I'm afraid

I don't want to shell out for a complete new wheel as the DT Swiss hub is good and has just had new bearings in (and a new one is £200). But I can't seem to track down just the rim.

Does anyone know if you can get them seperately. And where from. I could go for a different rim on the front and back I suppose but this would offend my delicate aesthetic sensibilities.

"Oh, Mr Darcy! How simply frightful. That young urchin has different colour rims on the front and back on that funny perambulated contraption!"

"Avert your eyes at once Miss Havesham, for I am horrified to report that the tyre logo's are out of alignment with the valves!"

A year or so ago I needed a replacement Rhythm Elite 29er rim and did it through Alpine Bikes. Might be worth giving them a buzz if you have one near you

Any trek dealer can order them for you.£45 and they've got most of the different options in stock (I just checked online).

Thanks very much for that. STW wisdom comes up trumps again

Jules - That's actually where I bought my bike from. Its quite a haul from Manchester, but then it does have the added bonus of getting a ride or two in while there 🙂

I'm up in the Edinburgh area so if you need some help sorting this out with a branch of Alpine Bikes then feel free to ping me an email

i wouldn't bother personally - they're crap rims from my experience (and yours by the sound of it).

Cheers Jules. That's much appreciated. My LBS have just ordered one for me. Should have it in Friday. Great stuff.

Peachos - TO be fair its taken two years of pretty serious abuse. And I don't think any but the hardiest of rims would have taken the impact that did the damage. Think 'elephant in freefall on a pinch-flat tyre. 😀
