After knocking out 80 miles, I tried to upload my ride.. It wouldn't.. Just gave a 'bad file' message on both garmin connect and strava!

The file is still on my 705 with the map etc.. So you can see the ride data on there still!

Is there a way to restore this file?

Can you open the file in notepad?
If you can, take a look here.

If you have the timings you can plot the route in Endomondo (use the Draw Route option when you click on New Workout) and produce a GPX file from this that Garmin will accept. It's a pain to do but produces an acceptable result.

Sure it isn't .tcx?

I've had it happen from time to time with my 705 (and a couple of times on a 500 too). IIRC the data is 'stuck' in the /History/Laps folder as a .dat file. Can't remember if I ever rescued a file though, I think it ends up being quicker to ride the route again 😉

To avoid it in future, after every ride hit Stop, then hold Lap for 3 secs to reset to zero (which saves the data to a .tcx file) and turn off.
