As part of my new 27.5 hardtail build I need new wheels. The weight saving is appealing of the Arch rims vs the Flow rims (55g per rim).

I will do 6ft drops/jumps max and curious to know if the Arch will put up with this sort of riding? I weigh 75kg, bike will be a 120-140mm steel hardtail. i will probably run 2.35" tyres - not a fan of the super sized tyres these days.

Failing that i'll just go for Flow.

A nice smooth 6ft drop measured with an optimistic tape measure might be fine, dropping to flat off the roof of a transit van might push them a bit.

Ive got crests on my CX bike which takes a bit of a hammering and they've held up OK, and had crests on my previus singlespeed which coped with plenty of average trail center jumps and drops. Bear in mind that on the CX bike there's half the tyre doing the shock absorption so even a small drop is putting a bigger strain on the wheel.

Ive got Arch as my spare wheels but havent needed them.

A Crest rim about to be pushed well outside of it's design envelope yesterday!

I did 3ft, maybe 4ft, to flat, drops on Arch EX (years ago on a bike that was later stolen) and I weigh around 90kg with no problems.

I'm no jumper, but I cracked 2 Arch Mk 3 rims around the drive side spoke holes (on a singlespeed, 29" wheels, 32 hole) so have moved away from Stans to DT Swiss.

6' is quite a drop, do you possess the Jedi skills your username suggests? I look for something suitable from DT Swiss.

Will you really notice 100g on your build? How about flow rear, arch front?

Even a Flow is a pretty light rim.
