While performing a service for the first time on my SID's, I have release all the air out of the spring side and removed the lowers.

I've noticed that the spring shaft is about half way into its travel, like there is a negative spring but I can't find anything about a negative spring.

It is near impossible for me to pull on the shaft by hand, it does move but only very slightly.

Is this normal or has air leaked past the piston?

I got a set but not taken them apart.

I would of thought that when you let the air our it sort of makes a pressure drop and the reason you can't pull it out is a vacumm. Hard to explain in writing.

Cheers, Shorty, makes sense, I'm going to whip off the top cap and see if that makes a difference.

yep, you've got air stuck in the negative air spring. On the newer ones, it equalises at full extension, so you've got to pull it out all the way or bolt the lowers back on and do it. Having said that, you can still do the lower service with them partially in.

Cheers Jam, I'll just service them and get them back together then.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
