I ordered a EX511 27.5 32 hole rim from Winstanleys in June - ‘in stock’ and good price. 2 days after paying I got an email saying it was out of stock and would be a month. When it was next due in July I got another email saying it was going to be another month…the new expected due date was a few days ago. Imagine my surprise when a few minutes ago I get yet another another saying now due 18th September. Is this genuinely down to a lack of stock out there or just Winstanleys being shite? I’ve heard retrospectively ‘never use Winstanleys’ a few times since I’ve ordered. Luckily I’m not desperate for it (though not checked rim after a gnarly Lakes weekend) but if I can pull it from them I’d rather pay a bit more if available somewhere else…
Bump
Have you Tried ze Germans?

Maybe others will help with shipping and taxes etc. It used to be under £130 ish was OK.
Cheers Damascus but I want to call whoever to check they actually physically have it before switching…Winstanleys said they had it when they didn’t so don’t want to make that mistake again
Twenty20 in Aberdeen seem to generally have good stocks of DT rims and EX511s in particular. Give them a buzz?

I was going to suggest 20Twenty as well as they are always posting DT Swiss wheel builds on social media so might have something in stock.
Moonglu worth a try too as they build a lot of DT rims.
Apologies to Mike for getting 20Twenty the wrong way round! 😳
DT Swiss rims are thin on the ground but there have also been countless posts in the last few year on here with horror stories about Winstanleys. I for one had to wait 2-3 months for the brakes they said were in stock. And good luck getting hold of them to cancel the order. I wouldn’t go near them again.
Current ETA on the Madison (UK Distributor) B2B is 11/09/2021.
Back order dates are very unreliable in the bike industry currently.
18Bikes posted a pic on insta recently of a big stack of DT rims - might be worth a shout.
Just to put an alternative experience out there, when I've ordered with Winstanleys their site has said if something is on preorder. I've still placed the order this way quite often, being happy to wait and not expecting accuracy if a site says 2 months. I see it as a shop to use in this way, for significant discount, but not a likely source if you're in a rush.
Useful. I've been havering over some XM481's and by the time I'd decided to 'pull the trigger' (hate that phrase) Tredz had sold out!
Try Mike at https://20twentystore.com/ local wheel builder always has ex511 wheels going out the door
I think I got lucky as my EX511 wheel came about 2 wells earlier than expected.
My XM481 is expected to be built mid September as he is waiting for rims.
So yes, stocks are low.
MTB Direct in Kent bought 10 last week from Madison. Worth giving them a try.
Yup, we've got a few 27.5" 32h EX511 rims in.
I mixed this thread with the Bikester one, and my 481's should be with me early next week. 👍
I ordered a DT 511 27.5" 32 hole rim on Monday from Bikester and is due for delivery on Friday
I built some CX wheels a few months ago on DT Swiss - by the time I'd decided what rims to go for there was ONE rim left in stock at CRC, seemingly no other stock anywhere. Ended up with one from CRC and the other from Bike24.de (which was excellent service, very quick delivery and no Brexit tax).
My LBS struggles to get DT Swiss in stock as well they seem a bit patchy. Great rims though!
When I saw the thread title I thought, yes actually I have had trouble getting hold of DT Swiss rims, but only when I ordered from Wynstanleys.
And now it's too late to warn you.
I ordered a pair of Hope hubs and a pair of XM481 rims from them and they arrived in 4 separate packages over a period of about 6 weeks. I'm guessing they sell stuff online that they don't have in stock and then just hope for the best. And this was pre Covid so I can't imagine how they're pulling it off now.
I ended up having them built at 18 bikes and collecting them the night before we left for Morzine. They turned into the most expensive wheels I've ever had. Nice though.
