You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have a 26" BMX bike I just use it for taking my nipper out for a ride in his bike seat, I wanted to change the gearing as it was a huge gear, I managed to get a 33t front ring for it BUT the hole in the chainring the crank goes through isnt a good fit on the crank (hole in chainring to large) and the anti rotation screw obviously cant take that kind of pressure on its own so the ring moves under load..
Can you get spacers or will I just have to improvise one?
Have been down this road several times with rocket jr's bmx
I've filed the centre of the chainring in the past and/or used strips of drinks can to try and improve the fit but as you say it's not enough.
From what I can gather there are several types of bmx bb and the in the end I just chose one with some cranks and a chainring that fitted and installed it.
You need a spacer - think theyre called top hats. Should have them on CRC or any good BMX shop/eBay.
Something like this in fact: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=47632
How large is too large? Are we talking tolerances or a few mm? There are 2 (I think) standards for BMX spindles and chainrings normaly come with a top hat spacer to convert them.
TINAS mm's.
Daveyboywonder yep thats what I need will get the vernier out and see what size I am after.
Thanks.
