I was thinking of taking off the minion dhf from the front of my bird for something that rolls a bit better on tarmac and dried out trails. I have a spare smorgasbord, so does anyone already run one on the front and is it any good there

If you have one why don't you try it? thats going to give you a much better answer than asking other peoples opinions.

sometimes I have one on the front AND the back.

Always considered the Smorg like a Maxxis Advantage which id always used as a rear tyre so i always put Smorg on the rear. Still, can't hurt to try...well it might, if you wash out.

Seems fine to me but then again I'm firmly of the opinion that most of the chat around tyres is of the princess and the pea variety.

Maybe it’ll be a bit like a Nobby Nic on the front - ok for general xc riding bit lacking in side knobs for really pushing it?

I’ve only ever used one on the back with a chunky monkey on the front (although I’ve now got a dhf up front as it corners better) and as soon as things are wet it tends to skate about all over the place. I don’t think I want that on the front!

Its rarely the tyre that lets my riding down 😀

My check list goes

1. does if physically fit

2. is it round.

3. there is no 3

I use them wherever, and think they're fine. But then I'm easily pleased......

I've got them at both ends on my Scandal. They're fine!

I used them front and rear on a couple of bikes, always found them a decent tyre for most situations. I never thought they were much good in muddy conditions but good pretty much everywhere else.

I've used them front, rear, whenever. Currently on the back of my 29er but only because i happened to fit another diffeerent one this time on the front. I'm with spin though, it honestly doesn't make that much difference to me what's on there.

Used to be my front tyre of choice, maybe 5 years ago, as they were cheap and there wasn't much around that was as big, I like a confidence inspiring big front tyre, and my fave riding was big Lakes days, they were good for that.

As above, not much cop in the mud, and also they're a bit light for a rear tyre IME.

I 'preferred' the Chunky Monkey on the front, but mainly because it was slightly wider. No issues with the tyre whilst riding, but I'm convinced the 26" version has a deeper tread. I always look at the 27.5" variant and think it is already half worn. Still works though so n ot a bad tyre.

My head seems to be happier with a slightly wider tyre on front though, so it would be Chunky Monkey up front and Smorg on rear for me - if I had both tyres to hand.

Apologies, getting my tyres mixed up, after reading DB's post, it was a Monkey I used up front, not a smorg.
