Anyone have a reaction to silicone?

Not something I've ever noticed before, but....

Got some new IXS Flow Lite knee pads. The pads are great, just what I was looking for, but the silicone grippers seem to have irritated me.

I had them on for a while, so some of it could be (was) chafing - had a big sore line across the front of one thigh. However, on this sore line, I had a big watery blister. Then both legs had isolated  big watery spots/blisters.

Like I say, could just be chafing, but I've not really encountered the blisters before and wondering if it could be a reaction to the silicone

One pair of shorts I have has the grippy stuff along the bottom edge of the legs.  I get a rash from it.

Yep. I have some bib shorts and liner shorts that leave me with a sore, red mark around my thighs*. Applying chamois creme/Sudocreme before riding helps but I reserve them for shorter rides only. I wasn't always affected like this, it doesn't seem to be related to temperature/sweat levels, nor detergent type.

* I can read the brand name (mirrored) 😀

Yep. But only caused by a pair of alpkit shorts.

Sure it isn't sweat-related? I'm guessing the silicon grippers won't be breathable and your effort is going to get you sweating...it might be sweat and the silicone causing the irritation and reaction. Just a suggestion.

I slap on Assos cream before donning knee pads.  Seems to stop all chaffing and irritation but means the pads have to be washed more often.

I had trouble with some long MTB knee pads, but only after a full day of wearing them just in case the ladder went out from under me again, so my knees/shins weren't in the best mood as they had already landed hard on the rungs without protection. The reaction blisters were nastier than the grazes/bruising on one leg.

Although it may have been a special case, I peeled all the silicone off them anyway and they still stay put fine. No trouble with any of my shorts' grippers or anything else.

Then both legs had isolated big watery spots/blisters.

I got this whenever I used shorts with silicone grippers, I stopped using them.
The silicone strap on my Garmin Instinct also irritates my wrist - which is really annoying, as I've not found a decent substitute/replacement.

Yep, I just bought 3 new pairs of Nukeproof shorts and they give me a blistery circle right round my legs. I’ve been turning the bottom inside out but I plan to cut the silicone bit off.

The silicone strap on my Garmin Instinct

I got an official leather Garmin strap for my venu it has a different quick release to the instinct but its well worth it.

I just swap to the silicone for anything majorly wet or sweaty.

In the Alps one of the group had fox short with grippers which left a red mark, after a few days he had a white negative fix on a red background.

I'm getting a similar rash and itchiness with knee pads I've just bought. After one ride I had an itchy rash all around the knees.

Turns out it's the neoprene in the knee pad that causing an irritation.

I'm trying to find some pads that don't have neoprene in them.

My Garmin heart rate strap causes weird burns/blisters. Can’t wear it as the burns last for weeks too.
