Just done the annual oil change and check on the stanchion. Everything was fine.
However, putting it all back together, the rebound knob was ineffectual. It will happily spin and click but not do anything. The rod doesn't seem to change height as it screws (or doesn't) and it never meets a stop in either direction.
I've got the damper apart but I can't see how to extract the rebound rod from the cylinder.
Any ideas?

Possible that you've over tightened the bottom bolt and snapped the shaft. :-\
The damper is unpleasantly complicated and surprisingly delicate. If you slackened it off to drain the oil properly (by loosening the nut with a cone spanner) is it possible that you've just forgotten to tighten it up again? Can't see how it could cause this problem, though.
Be very careful disassembling it further, making a note of where each stack of shims sits and in which order and orientation. There's a strip down guide on Fox's website.
The clicking means nothing - it's just a ball bearing and a spring.
Onza, it's more likely that you've wound out the rebound too far as the cap is not going up and down. The rebound cap is connected to a small insert that is held in place to the top cap assembly by an o ring, there's also a threaded section that lifts and lowers the rebound. It seems that this is wound out too far, try pushing down on the cap and winding in the rebound, once the thread eganges it should be good to go.
Cheers. I imagined that's what it would be like but no amount of winding seems to be able to get it to re-engage.
I've got the damper stripped down so all I have right now is the cartridge shaft with rebound rod and the rebound cap I've reattached so I can turn it.
I'd have thought from there, I'd be able to remove the rebound rod.
