Just had very dodgy message from a random email address guy telling me oh i'll take your bike full price, just joined PB today no history sounds iffy to me & just wondering if anyone has had AR$*HO7%s trying it on.
I'm fully expecting, can I deposit 200,00000 dollars in your bank as my aunty's granddads Uncles brother has just died...... Nigeria you know the score.
Cheers
Mark
Yes I just have.

Wait for the offshore, hospital, different country, work nights, oh holiday mail ....
Followed by,
Pay with PayPal, send a mate to pick it up as I can't ..... Scam
I find selling through pinkbike far easier and less hassle than selling through STW. you will get a few odd balls but its worth sticking it out. when you signed up you had no history, were you a scammer?
Pay with PayPal, send a mate to pick it up as I can't ..... Scam
Almost worth giving them a wrong pick-up address just to waste their time, effort and petrol money.
Pay with PayPal, send a mate to pick it up as I can't ..... Scam
being a total nube please can you explain that one.
I checked the name out n FB & a spotty yoof popped up what a knob, pictures of him riding bikes.
Had the Nigerian thing a few years ago & I know you shouldn't of replied but it was from a email address I was closing down, my demand was Send me Da Muny or Da Kid gets bullet, to which I received another.... we will send you 5 gazillion pounds to your private bank account, yeah righty.
Yes, be careful. My mate put his Scott genius on there and had a number of people trying to find out his address before committing to buying it - just gave the impression people wanted his address to steal it
MadBillMcMad - MemberPay with PayPal, send a mate to pick it up as I can't ..... Scam
being a total nube please can you explain that one.
The person who pays isn't the person who picks up.
So then they claim they never received it.
PayPal sides with them and refund them (because you can't prove you delivered it to the payer).
You lose the bike and the money.
Pink Bike selling / buying is either great or a nightmare - no in between.
There are some guys on there who are great to deal with but some jokers too who offer to swap you an X Box for your bike. Others just can't / don't read the adverts.
ive had the address thing a few times when selling things - they are not even subtle about it ....
no negotiations no nothing ... just whats your address mate ill come collect....yes im sure you will...without speaking to me or handing over cash i bet....
Just give them the address of a local crack den. Or cop shop.
It'll have the same net effect.
Dont accept paypal and allow bike to be collected. There's now way you can prove collection took place, scemmer reports to PayPal that goods have not been received, you lose the bike and money.
Cash on collection is king.
The other thing is if you film them, or scam them back, they know where you live.
People can't or don't read the advert or want me to wipe their arses for them. It can very frustrating.
Hadn't heard the paypal thing, that's pretty bad! Is it safe to post with paypal? Surely they could just claim that yes they received the box but it was empty, would paypal side with that?
(asking because I have a bike for sale on pinkbike not because I want to try it out!)
I dont see an issue posting, other than people moaning about something and asking for a refund/partial refund.
Just make sure you have lots of pictures of the bike in the advert showing any possible parts people might moan about, and take decent photographs of the bike packed up so you can prove you packed it properly and then you have appropriate evidence if needed.
Not everyone is a scammer let's remember.
I've had obvious scam e-mails but I've also had success selling stuff on Pinkbike. In one case a reasonably expensive bike ($3k) was sold to someone who created who joined just to message me.
But I've also had plenty who failed to read adverts etc...
I sold a frame to somebody on here. It was his first post, he didn't try and haggle, wanted to PayPal immediately. I couldn't even find his address on google earth. I was convinced it was a scam.
I started a thread asking for opinion that the chap saw and commented on. He understood why I was sceptical and explained that he had been looking for the type of frame for ages and only signed up to buy it. I agreed to sell it to him as long as he paid by PayPal gift.
It all went very smoothly and I felt a bit bad that I had questioned his legitimacy.
I got this today selling a bike on gumtree Great! please consider it sold and please cancel every other appointment regarding it as i am willing to pay your full asking price because i need to buy it for my cousin as a gift, i have read through the advert and I'm totally satisfied with it,sadly i would not be able to come personally to collect due to my hearing loss and me being in wheelchair.
I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i'll pay you via PayPal.
Where is the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now?
Thats the third one in two days
