what are the built in maps like on it? has it got OS type built in maps now for free?
do they have all the bridleways/footpaths marked etc, i know its a fair chunk of cash and also a fair old size too
For their own sake no one I hope, read the review by DC Rainmaker.
"With that noted, I’m going to be blunt: This unit shouldn’t have been released in its current state. It’s simply too buggy at this time. The core functions and features that theoretically separate it from lesser Garmin units simply don’t work."
Really surprising given it's a Garmin, they always get the software right first time...ahem...
I bought an 810 on that back of that review. I was all set for the 1000, read that and other reviews with similar viewpoints then scuttled off to find an 810, which is proving very good so far.

So did I. Once I sorted the navigation options and added maps, it is a fine device. A little on the large size compared to my 500, but I like the profiles user interface very much.
I really want a 510 (or smaller) sized 810. The pool of ANT devices is a nice touch on the 1000, I hope they roll that out.
The only thing worth having that the 510 has over the 500 (IMO, 510 owner) is the Bluetooth downloading. For me it was worth the extra £€$ for not having to start the computer up to get it online.
The bike and activity profiles are a big improvement too. I have more than three bikes (500 limit) and four activities (no equivalent), with different screens for each. Setting up the display is also much easier
