You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Lets have a look what you have, that you don't see around.
??
i allways watch threads like this for another look at that rigid mather that someone used to post.such a nice bike that was.
Ton, any closer-up pics, can't really see it properly in that one.
looks smart, and pretty robust! - how heavy is it?
- almost looks like the lovechild of a 2008 Stumpy FSR, and 2010 Enduro!
I guess my new BMC will be fairly rare when i finally get it built. My BREW bmx is a reasonably obscure brand too i suppose.
Don't imagine they're any better than bigger companies bikes, but it's kind of nice having something a little bit different.
probably about 32ish lbs.
for some stupid idiotic reason, i was advertising it for sale.
i got 5 emails from people i know/have ridden with telling me i was mad and that it is the only bike i have that looks like a normal bike when i ride it.
so thanks people, i am now gonna xt or xtr (gulp) it up.
So Ton thats your one bike for 12 months then 😕
lol, the people have spoken!
- go with xtr and keep the economy going single handedly!
si, no, it is being resprayed, rebuilt and put away till november next year.
by then i will hopefuly be slimmer, fitter and be able to ride it like it should be.
my bike for a year is 2 weeks into use
a 21'' on one 29r fitted with rigid forks and 1x9 gearing.
1.95 kenda klaws for the mud at the mo.
I've never got the single speed thing! - is it not far to much like hard work! (although if your only going down then I guess it makes sense)
2800euros for the frame!!!!! - although it is called a Jedi (almost worth it for the name alone!) 😀
Ton
Thats the biggest sense I've heard you speak in ages 😆
(about not selling the Ventana)
How you getting on with the 1x9 gearing Ton, thinking about it for my new Swift 😕
not a great photo I'm afraid, but here is my Sinister Ridge:
[/img]
it's a one-off frame with custom geometry: Frank lengthened the top tube slightly and changed the head angle to suit a 120mm fork. The result is nothing short of amazing. climbs impeccably (though sadly limited by my Gut), then inspires infinite confidence when pointed downwards. loves to leave the ground. really deserves a stiffer fork (though that Marathon XC is delightfully plush).
continuing on the rare/boutique front, I also have a Sinister Gruitr which I only built up a couple of months ago and have scarcely ridden yet... and a beautiful old-school steel GT ('98 Bravado) with mainly original kit, though no photos of either to hand.

Custom frame so pretty niche in the photo. Now running it fixed to be nicher that you!
And bent seat post swapped for a straight i-beam
andy, cheers...
si, good as gold so far. 32 x 12-34 cassette.
i can walk as fast as i ride in the granny on a triple, so do not miss it yet.
I'm still amazed by the number of different brands out there!!!
Other than money for R&D, wonder if there is any "quality" difference between niche/very small/boutique. I know they can be more accommodating (like for Furry_MArmots case)/make changes quicker, etc.
stew - I can't speak for other manufacturers, but the welding quality at Sinister is on another level.
Raleigh titanium - with funny handlebars for WCA

clicky make biggy
Edit - never seen another one - never heard of one in blue. Certainly uniquie with the mary bars, 2x9 gears and pikes!
I've got a Santa Cruz Jackal BMX, one of only 75 made with 20" wheels.
Can't say I'd actually know the difference (visually) between a good/average weld, other than neatness, which I reckon is probably a sign of care and pride! Which I don't suppose is always the case for a lot of manufacturers!
If a frame broke at the weld, I'd think a) I should of bought a heavier duty frame for this type of riding, b) it's a bad weld or c) it's time for a diet! (answer probably c + a or b!)
Out of interest does anyone know how/if there is a way to tell if welds are high quality, or is it just an experience thing.
Jeremy, What are those bars like for control? Sure I saw/read an article about a bike with similar ones, and the writer reckoned after a bit they were pretty good!
Stew - they are good for comfort - its the main reason I have them. cornering control at the moderate speeds I manage is fine - perhaps better even. Control in the air is poor - your elbows tend to get locked into your sides rather than stick out and its hard to control the attitude
I actually have conventional bars on it now with the marys on my commuter
had a sinister splinter awesome bike, redneck engineering at it's best, just too mental for my xc jeyness.
how rare are we talking? Does me foes fxr, built by mr brent himself qualify?
I cant say i've ever seen another one and dont know many shops selling them . . . Mine has the shock body from a Mono on it if that help make it unusual?! 🙂
rofl @ "redneck engineering" - I'm not sure the guys who run Sinister would be entirely comfortable with that description! I hope you didn't sell the Splinter (MX or ER?), they were incredible bikes - I'd have bought one in a flash rather than the Gruitr if they were still in production...
Is a Ti Pompino rare enough?
I've got one of these, not seen another one about.

Nice bike gingerflash looks good in orange.
Not seen you out in the Peak but look forward to the day when i run into you on my brown Chromag Sakura. Currently running a magic ratio in singlespeed form. Lovely bit of kit.
Just sold my Factory custom specced Nicolai Argon CC singlespeed. I don't think there is another in the UK.
Sofaking - Love the bike fella, what is it please?
I do like flames a lot.
I had this Racer-X 5 years ago, I didn't know of anyone outside of the Titus team that had one, common as muck now!

Peterpoddy its a phil wood piss off made by independent fabrication to celebrate pw's 32nd anniversary.
everyone was made to order
personally i hate flames, but love indy fabs
messiah, looks nice .what does that weigh in at ?
Dean Colonel Ti with custom geometry to replicate my beloved 93 Clockwork (now too cracked and rusted to ride any more). Clockwork geometry tweaked slightly to accommodate a 100mm fork.
Dean Colonel Ti with custom geometry to replicate my beloved 93 Litespeed (still in use).
😀 😀
Also got a Dean Torreys Cyclocross bike of which I've never seen another one in Blighty.
sofaking
messiah, looks nice .what does that weigh in at ?
*cough*
44lbs
*cough*
Not much use for rolling trail centre rides but show it the scary mountains where I often ride and it's worth the pain of the climb.
5+ years and I've not broken it yet which is a record (I have done it some considerable damage though 😆 )
Orange Subzero number 11 of 200
I'm sure that there's no other Blacksheep in the UK at all.
And the fact that they're custom built to each owners spec so there won't be another one exactly the same anywhere makes it quite rare. 😉

I had one of them Foes FXC, great little bikes...
Yup. two.

juan - MemberMy rocky mountain switch 2001. I have yet to see another one of them.
Isn't that because they all cracked!
I'm favouring the 'piss off' and the 'sheep' although some nice custom English steel would be a preference - for me. I'm not fussy, I'm just perceived to be! 😉
andyl46, any more pics of your custom g-spot?? Great bikes, almost got one but got a Hustler and STD instead.
Love the Nucleon too! Must be worth all the "how much does it weight" and "how much did it cost" comments!
Hey Beefy, that really is a rusty piece of cack! 😉
FAT Chance titanium #13...no pictures tho' as it's back at the framebuilders (again!) getting a weld repaired...
When read the words 32 of these only made...it had to be a Phil Wood PissOff, although no offence meant but I'd be pretty p1ssed off if eiht the crazy flames paint work...prehaps it looks more mellow in reality?
tangent.
His other piss off doesn't have flames on.
messiah, has that nicolai got 2 chains?
44lbs? How?! No, really?
I have a couple of Curtis's but I get in trouble when I post them 🙂
T45 is quite unique - don't think anyone else uses it.
His other piss off doesn't have flames on.
was going to attempt a p1ss poor attempt at humour ... but am astonished 😯 2!!! wtf! surely the quintessential frame for this thread?
not boutique but pretty rare on these shores at least (although my old boss has one too!)
