looks smart, and pretty robust! - how heavy is it?
- almost looks like the lovechild of a 2008 Stumpy FSR, and 2010 Enduro!

I guess my new BMC will be fairly rare when i finally get it built. My BREW bmx is a reasonably obscure brand too i suppose.

Don't imagine they're any better than bigger companies bikes, but it's kind of nice having something a little bit different.

probably about 32ish lbs.
for some stupid idiotic reason, i was advertising it for sale.
i got 5 emails from people i know/have ridden with telling me i was mad and that it is the only bike i have that looks like a normal bike when i ride it.

so thanks people, i am now gonna xt or xtr (gulp) it up.

Got a Viper 29er.

[img] [/img]

Rare as I've never seen another one built up or posted on the web, strange really as the frame only costs £125 and is actually rather good 😯

One of I believe only 3 Canfield Jedi in the uk. There might be a few more now, but with no uk importer and a retail price of 2800 euros frame only I doubt they will increase in popularity much!

I've never got the single speed thing! - is it not far to much like hard work! (although if your only going down then I guess it makes sense)

not a great photo I'm afraid, but here is my Sinister Ridge:
[img] [/img]
it's a one-off frame with custom geometry: Frank lengthened the top tube slightly and changed the head angle to suit a 120mm fork. The result is nothing short of amazing. climbs impeccably (though sadly limited by my Gut), then inspires infinite confidence when pointed downwards. loves to leave the ground. really deserves a stiffer fork (though that Marathon XC is delightfully plush).

continuing on the rare/boutique front, I also have a Sinister Gruitr which I only built up a couple of months ago and have scarcely ridden yet... and a beautiful old-school steel GT ('98 Bravado) with mainly original kit, though no photos of either to hand.

Custom frame so pretty niche in the photo. Now running it fixed to be nicher that you!

And bent seat post swapped for a straight i-beam

I'm still amazed by the number of different brands out there!!!
Other than money for R&D, wonder if there is any "quality" difference between niche/very small/boutique. I know they can be more accommodating (like for Furry_MArmots case)/make changes quicker, etc.

Can't say I'd actually know the difference (visually) between a good/average weld, other than neatness, which I reckon is probably a sign of care and pride! Which I don't suppose is always the case for a lot of manufacturers!
If a frame broke at the weld, I'd think a) I should of bought a heavier duty frame for this type of riding, b) it's a bad weld or c) it's time for a diet! (answer probably c + a or b!)

Out of interest does anyone know how/if there is a way to tell if welds are high quality, or is it just an experience thing.

Jeremy, What are those bars like for control? Sure I saw/read an article about a bike with similar ones, and the writer reckoned after a bit they were pretty good!

Stew - they are good for comfort - its the main reason I have them. cornering control at the moderate speeds I manage is fine - perhaps better even. Control in the air is poor - your elbows tend to get locked into your sides rather than stick out and its hard to control the attitude

I actually have conventional bars on it now with the marys on my commuter

rofl @ "redneck engineering" - I'm not sure the guys who run Sinister would be entirely comfortable with that description! I hope you didn't sell the Splinter (MX or ER?), they were incredible bikes - I'd have bought one in a flash rather than the Gruitr if they were still in production...

*cough*
44lbs
*cough*

Not much use for rolling trail centre rides but show it the scary mountains where I often ride and it's worth the pain of the climb.

5+ years and I've not broken it yet which is a record (I have done it some considerable damage though 😆 )

I'm sure that there's no other Blacksheep in the UK at all.

And the fact that they're custom built to each owners spec so there won't be another one exactly the same anywhere makes it quite rare. 😉

FAT Chance titanium #13...no pictures tho' as it's back at the framebuilders (again!) getting a weld repaired...

When read the words 32 of these only made...it had to be a Phil Wood PissOff, although no offence meant but I'd be pretty p1ssed off if eiht the crazy flames paint work...prehaps it looks more mellow in reality?
