we've got a Hubba Hubba HP and when using it at the weekend without the footprint for the first time a lot of stuff on the groundsheet got damp, it seamed anywhere there was pressure on the fabric (sitting, kneeling, under mattress) it got damp, it was pitched on damp but not saturated ground. It's always been used with the footprint so is highly unlikely to have been damaged by abrasion.
I've emailed MSR but had no reply yet, has this been other peoples experience? The groundsheet supposedly has a hydrostatic head of 10,000mm.

To be fair, Ive never had any dramas with it, and It's been used in some pretty crappy conditions on the Fells in the Lakes..

i'm pretty sure they'll sort me out if they see it as a fault, the importers were good when we broke the plastic pole joiner, they sent another one free.
I'm sure you'd have noticed if it did the same as ours, damp knees get annoying pretty quickly!

Hey - Dale here. (I work with the tent team at MSR). I am really suprised you haven't heard back from our CS team. They nearly always respond within 24 hours of the email. . . but, I caught your post and can help out.
As for the Hydrostatic head pressure, it is 10K on the tent floor, but not the footprint. The footprints have a hydrostatic head pressure rating of 2000mm.
But, 2000mm is way more than enough of a mm rating to keep water from migrating through - even in puddle of water. If you want to check it for pin holes, you can do that with a water hose. Just make a pocket of the material and fill it up with water. You can even twist the top of it together and squeeze it to add more pressure.
As someone mentioned earlier, it is most likely a case of condensation. We've even made a video about it on our website. Feel free to check it out at www.msrgear.com/tents. Click on any tent model and the video is available for viewing.
Physics is just something that we can't get around and when you are creating a warmer enviroment inside your tent it can hold more moisture in the air. When the warmer air comes into contact with a colder surface (ie, the ground, or colder outside air), the water molecules slow down and condense on the surface. It often forms under mattresses and other things that are pressing against the floor (or fly - such as poles) since these areas have more contact and cool even faster than surrounding surfaces.
Because of the high tech fabrics we use, you can often see the moisture even though it isn't getting through the actual coating. But, condensation can appear to be a leaking floor, rainfly, or footprint.
However, we want you to feel good about the tent. So, if you feel like it's leaking, we can get you squared away with a return authorization to send it in. We have a pressure tester here and we can check the coating in several places to make sure.

thanks Dale, i finally got round to sending the tent off to cascade and there's a new inner and footprint on it's way so that's great service from the manufacturer AND the UK distributor.
