Long shot I know.
Brother's an ex teacher who visits schools and gives talks on various subjects. Because the TdF is going through his local area next year, he would like to get the children interested and involved. An actual bike would be a huge help.

Thanks.

Give Team Sky a call ,bikes often get sold off at the end of the season though

A bike that actually competed, or just a high spec road/tt bike?

Possibly the children wouldn't know the difference, however the real thing would be good.

Well, I was holidaying in Puerto Pollensa, Majorca, this summer, popped into one of the beach front restaurants for a spot of lunch and to my surprise I saw this hanging up inside....

Apparently it is one of the bikes Wiggins rode on his winning TdF. Apparently the owner of the restaurant is a friend of his. So ask the Sky team or try to get a request through to Wiggo himself. You never know, he might even turn up personally.

So, how would I go about contacting Sky or Sir Brad?
This would be so good for the children if my brother could get him into the school.

To be honest I'd just get onto Team Sky, they're a cracking bunch of chaps.

When we went to Wales for the ToB stage one of our guys lost the grub screw that held his pads in, we saw the Sky bus in Betws and asked the mechanic if they had a spare, he said bring it over and he'd sort the brakes out. While he was doing that he said have a wander round the bus and take some photos if you like. Top guy.

Conversely the Omega Pharma guy didn't speak a word of English and wasn't interested in the slightest.

Mate of mine was in Italy last year for the Tour of Lombardy. Sky mechanics pulled into the same layby as him to offer wheels up.

The bloke in the jag let him have is pic as if he were driving gave him some bottles too.

Sound like they are a good bunch right enough.

You might be surprised, from what I'v seen he seems pretty approachable and junior development and school sports are right up the street of British Cycling. The trick is getting through to the right person, I reckon if you can manage that they'll sort you out with what you need.

He'll probably want it back though.

We got to see Chris Froome's 2012 bike at work recently. I work for Britvic and it was a Gatorade thing. Might be worth contacting @GatoradeUK on twitter to see if they can point you in the right direction.

You can have me on any one of my Cannondales if you like?
More realistically, you can borrow a SuperSix, Caad 8, Caadx or Flash (lefty fork might catch their interest).

Thanks for the info. I've passed it onto my brother who as a cyclist himself is keen to educate the youth of today about our terrific sport.

Rob Hayles lives nearby and is Cav's best buddy. Nick Craig as well he's well connected. Or how about Adrain Timmis, his show has a few of his Tour bikes from back in the day http://www.cadencesport.co.uk
All try and get hold of Barry Hoban or Brian Robinson, proper legends

Rich that would be great, thanks.

My brother will be visiting several schools in the Settle and Skipton areas very near to where the tour will pass through.

Don't suppose you looked in Jon Tiernan-Locke's lunchbox, right at the back of the fridge?

When I worked at halfords we had Nicole cookes Olympic bike we'd roll out for various marketing events with customers. Most teams will have bikes for such purposes

O.k. So my brother has got the go ahead to take a tour of the local schools in his area and would like a bike, as it really would inspire the children.

Any one out there who can help please?

Richpips I know said you could maybe have a word with Rob (or crazylegs).

Thanks

You have loads of good contacts up there. I'd start by getting on twitter and seeing if any of those mentioned above will help.

Contacts for sky can be found on the website etc.

Good luck, hope you get sorted

Haha, that piece is great nbt, however it's my brother on the right not the left.

He's just mailed me to say they have been lent one of Chris Froom's helmets from his win during the 2013 TdF.

Just needs a frame of bike now, or in fact any other bits and bobs.

That looks great, and will hopefulyy inspire a few potential cyclists!

A few years back the Tour of Britain came through my village. The head took all the kids up the road to watch, and my brother borrowed my road bike to do an assembly for them.

^^ Thats another level though, good on them!
