Seems like everyone that has one raves about it, I'm curious if someone has gone back to less radical geometry?
Haven't we had exactly this thread title on a long-running thread?
Pretty sure we did
Edit: Maybe not - this is probably the thread I was thinking about

I've honestly never seen anyone use the word 'regret' to describe a Geometron purchase but maybe they just sheepishly sell up and buy something else. I know a bunch of people who have gone from a Geometron to another Geometron and there's some people running multiple versions.
Usually just those with a XL when they book uplift (perhaps)
My only regret would not be getting one sooner, though over lockdown while only riding from home, I did over 1000 miles on my AirDrop Bitmap and loved it, during that time I decided that if I could only have 1 bike then it would be that, but once we could drive again I took the Geometron to the local woods, when I first sat on it I thought something was broken and riding round the car park it felt very strange, then after the first run downhill I was back in love with it.
I still love both bikes but if I could only have 1, but could ride anywhere it’s the Geometron every time.
Also uplifts trailers are fine, just spin the bars so the front wheel faces backwards.
“when I first sat on it I thought something was broken and riding round the car park it felt very strange”
Nowadays I’m certain that if a MTB feels natural and normal when riding around a car park, it’ll actually be rubbish for mountain biking.
Last year I had my LBS put a -2 deg angleset into my hardtail. It’s relatively long (not Geometron long though), very low BB, high stack with tall riser bars, 150mm fork and a short back end, ~63 deg static head angle. One of the mechanics said something “I’ve ridden it around outside, it feels horrible, just weird”.
But on the trails it feels amazing. And once you’re used to how it feels, that choppered out lazy flip floppy car park behaviour becomes what you expect a real MTB to feel like.

this is relative to what you ride though. If you are pissing about in the woods (eg ratboy and the cannondale waves crew - just an example - i'm not that good!!) you'll be making it steeper and shorrter as its more relevent to what you ride. If you are nino schurter youll be riding something different again.
One persons 'perfect ride' is anothers monstrosity. Be honest with yourself and what you want from a bike, ignore all the marketing bullshit, and pick the one thats most relevent to you and what you want to do on it. you may need more than one. or comprimise to cover more bases.
i rode a geometron in our local woods and it was terrible - beautiful bit of kit but mildly downhill twisty XC trail is not what its made for. but then my FS bike is terrible there too and thsts much shorter and steeper. our local woods is HT territory really. i ride my Ht 90% of the time. and thats too big for those woods for me really too if im honest.

I put a -2 on my Flaremax last week. Felt weird too as I rode around Inners carpark, but that was it. Brilliant everywhere else.

I don't get this. Was it your bike? How long did you ride it for?
I've ridden mine everywhere including local woods, trail centres and just bimbling along canal paths and bridelways. It's never, ever felt "terrible". It's just a bike.
Obviously don't buy one if it doesn't suit your riding but it's not like it turns into a pumpkin if you enter the wrong postcode. If I was a full time XC rider or trail centre mincer I'd definitely have a different bike for for me the drawbacks just don't warrant running multiple bikes.
I love mine 😀
It fits on the uplift trailer at innerleithen and bike park Wales... Just!
A few folk on here have bought and sold them on. So some folks must regret them.
ok terrbile was probably the wrong word - much hilarity was had by both riders as we swapped bikes and realised we couldnt ride either borrowed bike for shit. we did a few trails for comedy value. we both agreed i struggled more.
if i lived anywhere near wales/scotland/peaks/lakes/fod etc i`d have one. bloody lovely bits of kit.
as it is i live on teh south coast and the riding is just a bit lame for the most part to have one sat in the garage for the 3 weeks a year i go somwhere worthy.
I love mine (not exactly a Geometron, Nicolai Ion GPI) and not regretted riding it anywhere from the local woods to BPW to Utah. Mine is a bit heavy so would have doubts about it as an only bike but maybe.
our local woods is HT territory
Personal preference isn’t it. I have a couple of hardtails and ride them quite a bit but I don’t think I will buy another and if all my bikes were wiped out I probably wouldn’t replace the hardtails at all. Unless a spell of shagged out pivot bearings changed my mind again

absolutely - doesnt stop it being fairly pointless on a FS bike though. (my local woods are not gnar in any way - well, very gnar in winter but thats because trying to pedal through axle deep mud is gnarly not becuase teh trail are rad)
Wish I’d bought one sooner, properly engineered and properly setup by the Mojo rising crew. Can’t see me changing it for anything else. The storia shock is a step above everything else.
For the trails I ride, g1 is perfect, if you lived somewhere where the hills are mellow and the trails tight and twisty, I’d be looking at something more trail oriented
I mostly ride in Surrey Hills, Hindhead and used to go to BPW a few times a year before Covid
My G16 also climbs better than the Whyte T130RS I had before.
I know of one friend that bought a mk1 g16 in a size smaller than he should have and sold it on a few months later but he does change bikes quite often and most of his riding is jumping and jibbing.
I bought a mk1 g16 second hand a few years ago and still got it. It took me at least a month for me gel with it and get it set up for me and my riding style. Live in Essex but go over to Surrey hills most weekends. I like and want the geometry but don’t always need the travel but there aren’t many bikes that would fit what I want (stumpjumper evo or a 141 maybe).

I don't think it's even location specific - as I am now fortunate enough to live in a riding hotspot & there is some very steep & rowdy stuff locally, and an almost unlimited supply of the above, just over the border in Wales.
I commented recently on another post about (non specific) big bikes & the relationship with speed etc & regardless of the terrain it really depends on the rider. Having tried one extensively, I absolutely can't ride as fast as I can on a smaller bike (although relatively, it is fairly big, just not Geometron sized).
Of the 5 people I know who have tried them, only one still has one & he is technically now riding one too small for him.
I wouldn't have thought any regret them however, sometimes you have to try these things to find out if they work for you 🙂

Mine is a small (long in Geometron terms) where most of my bikes have been mediums (at 5’8” I am very medium). I have never for a fraction of a second wished I was on the next size up. Try before you buy.

even chris porter admits that you need to ride them, and set them up, differently to regular bikes. He also suggests that they are more suitable for certain terrain and riding.
I`m with you on bike sizing. you can see on the WCDH and EWS circuit not all the fast riders are on the longest/slackest bikes. obviously they have a fleet to try out so its easy to test and compare.
As paying punters we have to make an educated guess, buy one and hope its OK! thats the tricky part!
tricky and expensive in this case!
I sold one and regretted it. Does that count?

That's why I've still got mine. I've ridden a few other bikes recently and keep idly checking out other bikes. Most stuff is pretty disappointing in the flesh. I know nothing is going to do the job other than a G1 but I can't stomach the expense!
I would love one - and with Cotic walking yup their prices, the prices difference becomes less of an issue ....
That said , my just try a -2 head set on the flare max
