My out of warranty mech has starting playing silly buggers and will only operate if I hold the battery in place very tightly. Some googling has indicated that it may be caused by wear to the pogo pins on the mech that make the battery connection but while they are mounted on a separate plate and thus easy to change, it appears SRAM won't sell that part or reveal the part number of the pogo pins, expecting you to buy a complete new mech instead. ****ers! 🤬
Alternatively, if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution I'd be grateful to hear it.
It may well be that the plastic on either the battery casing or the hinged clip has worn out. Have you tried a different battery?
Yes. My battery works fine on my mate's mech and his battery doesn't work on my mech.
The lip on the hinged clip? Always struck me as something that might wear down (mine’s only a few months old…) but I kind of assumed the pins would be designed to still make contact… maybe they don’t?
Close inspection has revealed that it is indeed the pogo pins.

I'm no AXS mech expert... but if you remove that plate does it give you access to the back of the pins?
You can probably measure them and buy the right dimension pins online at Farnell or RS etc
Yeah, now I've confirmed the issue that's the plan. It's a very small T screw though (smaller than T8) and I currently don't have a suitable driver.
Someone has fixed theirs:

Thanks, I found that yesterday evening. He butchered a charger to get the pins but I'd like to avoid doing that if possible. I also found a YT video that gives a link to suitable pins on Amazon.
I guess I was hoping that someone on here had gone through this already and found a source for the screw in board.
Can you link me to the pins on amazon please? I don't have this issue but my mech is out of warranty and I fully expect it to happen at some point down the line...
Would adding a bit of solder to build up the pins be too Heath Robinson?
Might not take to the metal of the pins.
You’d have to be sure the heat didn’t damage anything in the mech (starting with the wires soldered on the other side of the pins).
Might tarnish/corrode.

Yes. 😜
It is however something I'm considering as a stop-gap solution as the pins are on a long lead time.
@shanner it's a bag of 100 so if they turn out to be the correct ones I can chuck a few in an envelope for you.

Similar thing happened to my mates mech that was out of warranty. He managed to get a nearby shop to replace it under warranty...
This seems like the kind of issue that warrants someone from STW speaking to SRAM…..
It's be interesting to see how SRAMs position aligns with the right to repair. If you're out of warranty it probably wasn't in place when you bought it but it was forseeable and the legislation was in train so I would expect it to have been incorporated.
That's an interesting point.
One would also expect such a critical part on a £3-400 component to last more than a year or two… Or, at the very least be replaceable at minimal cost…
Out of interest how old is yours OP?
April 21, but I bought it second hand.
