Just wondering what peoples experiences of these are?

Considering getting rid of my quad link wolfridge, which is now slightly over built with 160 coil forks, dh tyres, 50mm stem etc.
Initially I had considered the Stumpjumper Evo as it seems to have decent angles and not too heavy, I then checked out the spec of the nerve+ and obviously it's another level compared to the specialized (specification wise), it's also very similar geometry wise.

How much hammer can these Nerve+ frames take?
As I like to ride pretty hard, peaks riding, trail centres, bit of jumpy playing in the woods stuff with the odd reasonable drop thrown in (mountainbiking as I like to call it). I also enjoy good hard technical climbs too though, so would need something that can also go uphill reasonably well.

Failing the Nerve+, how about the strive? The higher spec ones don't seem 'too' weighty (bearing in mind the marin currently comes in around 34lb ish)..?

😀

Anyone got any experiences of these canyons at all?
It's hard to find any proper reviews/owners experiences of them.

Any other suggestions?
Ideally after 150mm (+/- 10mm)travel, 67-66 degree HA, not too heavy (can live with around 30lb), 2x10 + chain device and a dropper post would be ideal, also much prefer shimano over sram stuff but willing to live with it 😉

I have not ridden one but two friends have Strives and are getting on very well with them. One spent a whole day at Coed y brenin on the main trails and found it a good allrounder, obviously with more emphasis on the gravity sections but not too tiring . They both took them on some of the downill sections in FOD yesterday and were very pleased with the results. They appear well made, they have both said that they are very planted on downhill sections and at about 30lbs not too bad uphill either. Can't comment on longevity yet.

I was in a similar position to yourself a month or so back. My shortlist was eventually narrowed down to either a Stumpy Evo or a Strive. It was very hard to look past the Strive for VFM, but the waiting list put me off and also potentially long 'without a bike' period if anything did go wrong. Like you i couldn't find a whole lot riders opinions. In the end the decision was made for me when I spied a 2nd hand '11 Stumpy Evo for a good price. Very, very happy with it.

Canyon signing Barel was a good move for them, but it'll be next year before they make a bike using his input. Might not be a big deal, but it just might if the new version is a significant improvement over the current one.

Oh, the Zesty 516 was in the top 3 for a while also.

Ahh I assume you mean spicy 516?
Yes, spot on spec and geometry wise (possibly a little too pricy though), and pivot points in the right places 😉

Anyone have experience of the Commencal Meta SX? They look ace, mud collection could be an issue judging by some reports though?

I looked at all the ones mentioned and got a '13 stumpy evo.

Im 19 stone, got a large fram and dont take it easy on bikes, snapped the chainstay on my last frame due to hammering it if that gives you any idea.

Im glad i went and got mine locally, clutch rear mech packed up withing a week, took it back, replaced it on the spot and a new chain. Dont get that kind of service from Canyon.

The bike itself is awesome, only thing i would maybe change would be the cable routing down the downtube, looks a bit untitdy. But thats being picky! I think the bike looks amazing as well, some nice touches like the indexed rear skewer so you can postion the lever where you want. Dropper is decent, 3 position is pretty much all i need to be honest. Couldnt be happier with it. 🙂

I've got a 2012 Strive ESX9. I love it! I'm a big bloke (17st) and it takes a hammering, has been going strong for the last 8 months. As quick going up as my old meta5, but way faster going down. Only 2 complaints really - 1. The drivetrain needs cleaning after each ride otherwise it does devlop the tendency to chainsuck, 2. The rear shock blows through the second half of its travel too easily (possibly to do with my massive bulk), I'm losing weight at the moment so when I get to my target weight (16st) I'm sending it to LOCO for a tune which I think is about £30.
Overall really happy, when I had a problem with the reverb it went to fisherUK and was back in just over a week, never had a warranty repair done faster with a LBS, and there's a UK service centre now for any frame related stuff.

I did indeed. I think the zesty was also on my list (there were a few '12 going cheapish) as was the SX, as it was a commie supreme i was replacing and i loved how it rode. To be honest, pretty much every bike in that category (150-160mm) was on the list at some point 😉 . There aren't really any duffers about which made it hard to narrow it down. What helped me was i wanted a bike that i could use for DH but also pedal up and being a bit of a giant ruled out some of the bikes as their large wasn't really big enough for me. A few friends whose opinion i trust on these things, said the Stumpy evo was the bike for me. They were right.

Thanks for the input so far.
No one ride one of the new 150mm travel Nerve+'s then?

OH has the older nerve a 2012 120mm travel version, she loves it, far too small for me to ride, had a little blast over the rocks at cyb. Feels like a well built bike, canyons biggest fault is communication but if all is well there is very little to worry about.

Going to give it a month and i will be ordering one of there road bikes, as the value beats the downside anyday.

I have the 2011 Stumpy expert Evo and its brilliant, not too heavy or overbuilt but amazing on the downhills. I genuinely worry about how long I can hang on to it before having to buy a new bike and thats a good thing!

i've got the 2013 strive AL8, its a great bit of kit, it does need the volume reducers if your more than 13st as it does blow through travel a bit. i'd have no problem recommending a strive to anyone.

Got the Nerve AL+ 9.0 about a month ago, great bike and no problems so far. I went for this as I wanted Sram not Shimano 🙂

Customer service is fantastic, e-mailed uk centre with a couple of queries and always got a reply in 1-2 days.

Delivered within a week ordered Monday got it Friday, if you do go for it get spare mech hangers and screws at the same time to save postage.

As far as fit I used the PPS and it said small e-mailed UK centre and was told with a 1cm increase in inner leg (my measurements were probably at fault) I'd be medium and it is perfect.
