Grabbed a couple of pairs of the titanium axle jobbies from the sales

have tested in my kitchen and they are terrifying. super tight near the unclipping point

background, I've been on DMR V-Twins with multi release cleats for 18 months now, and recently started to pull out regularly, so decided it was time to go all in with fancier pedals and normal cleats.

The nukeproof are a whole different world, not only harder to clip in to, but near impossible even just testing, I'm not going out on them yet as i literally cannot unclip

checked for sole interference etc played with the pins etc etc

basically, do they get better if i just persist....?

I've had the CS for years and now have the CL. Never had an issue getting in/out of them using NP cleats and various shoes. I really like them, I'll be gutted if NP disappear and can't get spares etc. anymore.

However, the CL don't work with Shimano cleats but apparently do if they are shimmed away from the shoe, I need to give this a try at some point.

Yes they get better after a couple of rides with nukeproof cleats.

You need to play about with the spacers in the pedal pins to reduce the height at one or more areas.

I tried them with some XC shoes with Shimano cleats and experienced the same, very difficult to unclip.

Use new NP cleats.  Also crank up the tension and leave overnight.  Remember to wind it down before using the next day, though.

I have a pair of CL and a pair of CS...whenever I get a rebuild kit I leave out the newer, gold springs as they are much stronger.

I've got a couple of pairs of CS (not tried the CLs) and not had this problem.

Used with NP cleats, Shimano cleats, and some cheapie ones from Tredz, all with no issues.

Depends what you're used to, as they are definitely harder to clip in than Crank Bros pedals, but very similar to Shimano.

I expect you'll find you twist out with a lit more force when riding compared to just sat in the bike testing.

Have you adjusted the tension? Maybe back that off until you are comfortable on them.

Ah, these are CS, new cleats, gold springs

tension is full light

but that's a good idea, wind them to full tension to allow them to stretch i guess

The DMR's are SPD (compatible?) so I'm pretty familiar, and use the correct unclipping method

I found the critical bit was about the pin length. Too long as the prevented me from twisting enough to get release and the comedy fall was the result. Too short and you might as well not bother with them

Not had any problems with NP or Shimano cleats. Certainly more stiff than Shimano clipless pedals, but can still get out in a hurry.

Ha! I've got a few pairs of these from the fire sale! Stuck the cleats in my Hellcats, tried to engage with one on each hand, not a chance 😀
Should probably fit them to a bike.

This thread has echoed what I've read elsewhere, that they start off really tight and loosen up.

I’ve run them for years with shimano cleats and never had any issues.

They work with Shimano cleats, but the NP cleats are bevelled at the front so you can make better use of the front cage hinge for entry.
