I was at the last event on Sunday and managed to record enough material whilst riding to make a short video of the event.

Excellent Video!

🙂

I'm looking forward to the one in Callendar - not done much mountain biking there and sure the event planner will show us some of their secret trails!

Nice vid endorphinix. Done quite a few of the SMBO events but have moved down south now so couldn't make the GT one. Hope to get up for a couple this year as they're excellent events.
The GT one looked like a good area largely keeping it to the forest - last year's area was absolutely massive which I don't think is as good.

Yes Callander should be a blast. Maybe a little less local knowledge, a new arena is always a good leveler!

Thinking about it... Will be my first attempt, planning to enter the pairs with HWMBO.

Any tips? Anything I should have? (guess a map board / bag, compass, pen plus usual tools?)

Yes a map board of some description.. I have a patent pending design created from aerobars combined with lightweight plastic kitchen chopping board. The Pros, I can crash into a tree and it wont break, cons its a little heavy.

Lots of options if you google it.

I'd always have a lightweight raincoat, food water and carry a mini first aid kit, and puncture repair and multitool. Its a 3hr event and you can get fairly far out. Compasses are best carried but the navigation on these events is commonly done by identifying paths and junctioncs etc.. Rarely have I ever actually had to use one.

Jelly babies are a must or if your all sensible and grown up a high five gel etc.

Other than that just take a little minute at beginning to have a really good look at the available routes. READ the contours identify if your straight line route home near the end is definitly down hill and not a tremendous slog up hill!

Its is really worth trying to be punctual back, Its gauling to have worked so hard for that 25 or 30 point checkpoint only to lose that many points by deviating on the way back to pick up a 5 or something..

Have a laugh, its quite addictive you wont be able to wait till the next one!
