Developed a progressively bad squeak on non-drive side on FSA Mega-Exo crank set when mud started to freeze to the bike yesterday. Got home, Mud like concrete and front Mech was also frozen. After taking apart, cleaning and then reassembling all fine ?
possibly the metal of the BB shell contracting while cold and expanding when you get home into the warm shed?
Poss - but just was one sided - was wierd - perhaps water freezing expanded in the BB?
could be, if snow had got into the gap between bb shell and outboard bearings/BB spindle. i've got 4 bikes sititng in the garden in -5 overnight temperatures, god knows what this weather is doing to them!!!
Yep, had this yesterday with my XT cranks/bb. Got progressively squeekier the longer I was out, an hour in the house after and all was good again. Gonna whip it apart for some fresh grease anyway.
Cool Simwit - Yeh as had this bike from new Since May its never been so cold so I expect that's it - all fine now after a clean and thaw 🙂
