Have had an exposure maxxd for a couple of years but don't use it much (sadly) but this is now the second time the button has stuck and so doesn't work. They repaired it last time (although postage pretty expensive!) Have lost my receipt now and worried they won't repair it. Anyone had the same issue? Is it a common problem?

Not heard of that. Their customer service is very good, suggest you phone them on Monday.
Edit - all the lights have a stamped serial number so they will know how old it is without receipt
