Morning all. I’m finally upgrading my ancient 575 from 3x9 to 1x11.

Whilst I’ve got the bb out I was thinking of drilling the seat tube above the lower pivot so I can run an internal dropper at some point.. Anyone done it successfully?

PS: Isn’t fettling ace. A box full of new bits, radio 6 on and putting it all together.

I've done an Inbred - I just drilled two holes and then carefully filed put the gap between. Have some paint handy to cover the exposed metal and use one of these to cover the hole:

God I miss my 575.
Fantastic bike.
I'd still be tempted to buy one of the last ones but like everything else during lockdown they're still going for more than I want to pay.

I bought a used codeine from here that had been done that way.

It developed a crack just where the frame had been drilled.

If it was me I would be tempted to get either an externally rooted post or a wireless one.

I'm not even sure what the appeal of internal routing is.

Thanks for the replies, nothing drilled and will try and find an external routed post with the cables leaving the post at near the bottom at least. The now defunct reverb had the cables all the way to the saddle which was annoying and frankly ugly.

First shakedown after upgrading to 1x11 and feels like it has a new lease of life. Obligatory photo for Chopper:

Just checked how I ran mine, yes it's not the best looking but, to be fair, I never had issues with the cable/hose routing ...

I've run the cable through a bottle boss before now, no drilling or frame damage of any kind.
Obviously you lose the water bottle cage and it was a cable dropper, I think a reverb hose is thicker.

On my old Turner I opened up a drain hole very slightly with a file.

Can you all now stop posting pictures of your 575's before I try and find an anodised one in large for sale. Sold mine for £600 pre lockdown🙁.

What diameter/drop are you looking for?

30.9 diameter, drop length isn’t so important

The Brand-X external droppers have the cable going to an actuator on the collar so I don't think the cable moves when you operate it.

@choppersquad, at least you had one. I was going to replace my “ageing” Sugar1 in 2006 with a 575.
Had decided on the build spec, then found out FB jnr was on his way so that diverted bike funds.
Still regret not having had one.

I used to run it through the shock mount and with a stick-on cable guide under the top tube. Worked fine.

Correct. We have three like that. Easy to fit, easy to remove easy to service. Better than internal routing I think.
