Day off tomorrow and good weather promised so thinking of heading somewhere different for a 25-30ish mile ride. I've heard the Howgills Fells in Cumbria have some pretty spectacular views but the riding can be slow and sloppy if the conditions are bad. Has anyone been up there recently? Worth a trip? Route recommendations etc. Cheers.
Hi
We didn't do the Howgills exactly but we were riding from Kirkby Stephen in a loop that took us through Ravonstonedale on Sunday and it wasn't too bad.
Fairly firm under wheel but with a slippy surface due to the damp in areas.
As far as I know there's been no rain since Sunday so shouldn't be too bad
Cheers
Steve
It's normally dampish in places down the end of Bowderdale even after a drought.
That's not a reason not to do it though, the rest of it will be in prime condition.
Was great a couple of weeks ago...

... been rather dry since then!
Will be about as dry as it's ever going to get. Views are indeed stunning.
