You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Mine is very slow to rise despite raising it without the clamp done up - also I have a fair amount of fore and aft play and a bit of twist - I expect maybe a bit more fluid inside might help but?
Checked the air pressure ? Should be about 25psi. Mine wobbles rotationally, not fore/aft. I tried to get the collar off but couldnt so sent a few emails. No reply from UK distributor.

Don't not attempt to take apart the Hilo unless you are fully capable of rebuilding it. Unfortunately if requires tools to do so. The Hilo is kind of an open bath system. So if the post works it is definitely not dry. Try letting some wet chain lube such as Dumond Tech or Finish Line sit on the seal head for about 10 to 15mins. then cycle in through. Then apply a bit more and let it sit over night. Our seal heads have a very tight fit and have a very long break in period.

To: Alex Luffman
Hi Alex,
The HiLo is an air-oil emulsion and as such is a pressurized system. If you even start disassembling parts of the seatpost without first removing the air you will have problems and void your warranty. BTW removing the air is not as easy as just activating the schraeder valve due to the oil emulsion.
Most HiLos have a bit of a squeal to the action when the posts are first activated until the seals get oil on them from the emulsion. If you really want to apply a bit of lube to the stanchion around the seal at the seat collar (without removal) go ahead, but be warned that the dirt and dust kicked up by your bike will collect on that lubricant and help to eat away at the seals causing premature failure.
The seatpost was designed to be a sealed, maintenance free system. The seals are tight to keep air and oil in and detritus out. The sacrifice there is a tight fit and a bit of noise before it loosens up. Once the seals are warm the noise will dissipate, and over time once the seals are worn in it will occur less frequently.
Cheers,
