How was it?

If things went wrong, how good were they in dealing with problems?

Do they do discount codes?

Hello Jamie, i have the Rose Granite chief (2013) 26inch wheel. I love the bike, full xt, revelation forks, crank bros etc. paid just 1500 for it. The only thing i changed was the saddle. The bike is anodised black and looks great. The monarch reaer shock needed a bit of fettlingto set it up correct, I run slightly more sag (about 30%).

The bike is brilliant however I did have a minor issue when i bought the bike. I waited about 3 weeks for delivery, it came nearly fully built in a mahoosive box. When i put the seatpost in the post was catching insidethe seat tube, there appeared to be a small amount of swarf in the seat tube catching the post.
I spoke to Fin the UK contact who arranged for collection of the bike, came next day, repaired and sent out same day. So i was without the bike for 3 days. Rose (germany) also repaced the seatpost as it had been scored slightly.

Fin was superb to deal with, spoke on the phone, kept me updated. I would recomend them.

Hope this is some help.

Me me me.

The bike is great and it was a really good price. I had a couple of ordering issues though - I think mainly due to my customer notes getting lost on the original order.

Full saga:

I ordered my bike from the Rose UK site, http://www.rosebikes.co.uk but at that time it was still being updated and they didn't have the Configurator working on it yet.

I originally spoke to Rose on the phone, I wanted it updated to the just released SRAM Force 2013 groupset, and I wanted a 11-32 cassette and the WiFLi deral. They agreed to do this all free of charge (which is very cool). But since the configurator wasn't working I just had to put these details in the Additional Wishes bit of the order.

Somewhere along the line those Additional Wishes got lost and I got the standard build bike.

Contacted them and returned it to them (free of charge) without hassle.

When I got it back it had the WiFLi and cassette, but a mechanic's note saying the 2013 group was the same as 2012 so they hadn't changed it. 🙁

I pointed out this is bollocks but I didn't want to send the bike back to Germany again, so the helpful Fin got involved. I sent the bike down to him, he fitted the newer groupo and returned it promptly.

(any excuse to post a picture of it)

So, all worked out in the end, but a couple of minor kinks. I suspect most of that has been ironed out since as they now have the proper Configurator on the Rose UK site.

Despite the hassle I would use them again.

One thing I would advise: join the Rose VIP Club BEFORE you order your bike - that way you get a big stack of loyalty points to spend on other stuff.

Ah, Graham, I did remember you had one. Looking, possibly, at the DX3000 which has the same frame/fork as yours I think.

1. What's it like off road, or is this just a road machine for you?

2. How has the anodised finish held up?

...I would ask about sizing, but your bike looks bigger than a 52/54 so won't bother 8)

Edit: 11-32....you riding up the Alps?

She's also linked in her reply to another post about it. The bike is nice. They were able to adapt the spec to her preferences. She's on the 54cm @ 5'9". It's about the same length as my small TCX SLR2, but less stand over height

Yeah mine is the Cross DX 4400. Should be the same frame and fork.

1. What's it like off road, or is this just a road machine for you?

Not had it "proper" off road yet, just bridleways and the like. Seems to handle those well enough (which is mainly what I got it for). I'd probably add some padded bar tape for anything rougher - the Fizik stuff on it is nice but not very thick.

2. How has the anodised finish held up?

Very well so far. No marks on it despite alternating between being thrown in my shed or being chained up next to other bikes on a rack. It's quite a matt finish. I give it a wipe down with some Muc-Off Bike Spray when I clean it which brings it up nicely and helps keep it clean.

...I would ask about sizing, but your bike looks bigger than a 52/54 so won't bother

yer, mine's a 58. I wear big boy pants. 😀

The have a size-o-meter on the website which is quite handy. You give it your measurements and it configures your bike with correctly sized bars, cranks etc.

11-32....you riding up the Alps?

Scotland.

I wanted (needed!) to out-range my roadie mates on their triples when we were doing this:

which had LOTS of these

On my more typical riding the extra cassette range means I rarely drop to the small ring on the 50/34 at the front.

Cheer, Graham. Nowt that step round my way, so will probably go with 46/36 - 11-28 or something. As for colour, I like the idea of a nice durable anodised black, but the white is calling me....caaaaaaalling me.

re: VIP club, does one join by just registering a regular account via https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/user/register ?

Hmm. Given that info, and that a small TCX SLR 2 fits me fine, I reckon I would go for the 52cm for the standover.

I picked up a pro RS a couple of years ago and have covered 6k miles on it now - lovely bike.

Only problem with ordering is it was delayed due to the red chainset (an upgrade) not being in stock, but they didn't say until I called a couple of times. Switched to a force and it was dispatched same day.

No issues with the bike, other than the other day the head badge fell off. Not bad.

I am also looking at their cross bike as a winter bike / fireroad bike.

How do they size up? Is the 58 the same as your road bike? I've currently got a 56 Pro RS and I'm just shy of 6'.

Gearing wise I was planning on a compact with a the 32 cassette option, there aren't that many hills round my way, but would be nice to have a bail out option

What guards are those you are using?

My pro rs is white, its lovely, so I should probably go for black though that isn't really the best colour for winter riding!

Can't help sorry. That 58 is my road bike (and my commuter and tourer). My first foray into roadie stuff so I'm not sure how it sizes.

I'd be tempted to say it feels just a tiny bit large with a 100mm stem, but then I'm not very flexible. 😳

What guards are those you are using?

SKS Chromos.

It's a bit far from the back wheel in that photo. Sits nice a snug now.

I should probably go for black though that isn't really the best colour for winter riding!

And the black is lighter 😀

How tall are you on a 58 then? What size mtb do you normally ride?

How are the crossrides? I think the current 4400 comes with crossones? Any difference do you know?

Thanks for the answers 🙂

I'm about 187cm (~6'1) with a 188cm arm spread and 86cm inside leg
(I have all this noted down from when I bought it 🙂 )

What size mtb do you normally ride?

Erm... no idea. Haven't bought a new MTB in a long time.

How are the crossrides?

Seem fine to me. I've heard reports of hub failures, but mine have been sound so far. Probably not the lightest wheels out there but seem sturdy.

Minimum recommended tyre width is 28mm. I swapped out the Racing Ralphs it comes with for 28mm Conti 4 Season which seem good.

I think the current 4400 comes with crossones? Any difference do you know?

Yeah the 4400 2014 edition has Cross Ones. No idea what the difference is sorry.

Seems like the CrossRide are marginally lighter (alu axle instead of steel) and have bladed spokes instead of round.

Just been into the garage and measured my small TCX and ahsat's Rose 54cm.
Both are 53cm toptubes. 1cm more stand over with the Giant.
For reference I'm 5'8", no idea on actual inside leg, wear 31" jeans. Running post on the Giant at 75cm. I do prefer road bikes smaller and bigger mtbs for some reason. So in mtb: 18" on an on one, medium yeti, large Liteville,
Hope that helps

Yep helpful, I think a 56 is probably right for me then, same size as the road bike.

One less excuse not to buy

Hmm. According to the inseam recommendations, I should be on a 52cm, being 5'7"/31" inside leg, but the bikes dimensions seem kinda low, with the 54cm having more in common with my old small SLR 2 and 52cm Croix De Fer. Might have to give them a shout.
