Planning a trip to Portugal in early June. Flying in to Porto and out of Faro 12 days later.
We'll be on gravel bikes so will try and stay off roads where possible, though from an initial look at the map it looks like there will be a fair bit of asphalt. Rough idea is to generally stick to the coast so we can also do some surfing with forays inland to find a few hills to mix it up.
Curious as to whether anyone here has ridden a similar route?
Surfing.. You're going to visit Nazare, right? (just to watch, I assume)
did a two week leisurely trip across the Algarve last year - East to West. Flew into Faro then train out to the Vila Real on the Spanish border and arrived in Sagres about 9-10 days later. Turned round and picked up the train at Lagos back to Faro.
It was strictly Credit card touring though. Loved it all the way and we will go back to do the Northern leg up to Lisbon and maybe Porto if time allows.
Check out the EuroVelo Routes #1 - https://en.eurovelo.com/ev1/portugal signage is a bit patchy but just keep the coast on your right or left depending on your chosen direction and you be fine. Enjoy!
‘North to South’ on GCN (apologies if you can’t watch it without a sub).
Edited for epic link failure!
Last september I did the N2 challenge which is a great route. The N2 is the old continuous road that goes from north to south and is a fantastic way to see all of portugal. Very quiet with great scenery and places to stop etc. Have a look here for info on route

Did the via algarviana in 2020. It can be relentlessly hilly. I’d love to go back. Don’t assume that the more remote areas will speak English.
Do eat tosta’s and pasda del nata.
Thanks for the tips so far. I will definitely take a look at Nazare but my surfing skills are minimal, so I will be in the tiny waves on one of the huge beginner boards 🙂
I'll have a Spaniard accompanying me so that should help on the language.
