Planning a bit of a road trip through France to the Pyrenees this summer, and I quite fancy doing a bit of downhill type stuff (freemince lite 😉 ). We want to go to Barcelona too so we were thinking Andorra might be a good bet.

Thing is I will be with my GF who is a relatively inexperienced biker - she is normally happy with UK red trail centre stuff but she's not mega fast/confident. She would be riding a hardtail too (One One Summer Season) and doesn't have a full facer. I had a look at some videos and it seems there is some fairly ungnarly stuff there but just wondering if anyone has been for some first hand experience.

I wouldn't mind doing some XC too but I wonder how possible it is without a guide? I think most of the companies you see recommended on here like Altitude Adventures only do guiding for a full week and if you are staying with them, whereas we would just want the odd day or two maybe.

Ta

Valnord would be fine for her, as would Grand Valira which is the other bike park. La Molina has nothing really that interesting for less experienced riders (the best riding starts with the reds and they are a fair bit more difficult than a uk red) the easier routes are steep fire roads and pretty crap. Les Angles, just over the border from La Molina in France is really nice for both XC and lift assisted.

That's great info thanks very much (I think you replied to another thread I made when I wanted to do something similar last year - definitely doing it this year though 🙂 ).

Les Angles looks nice, thanks - is there waymarked XC stuff there? Can't quite work it out from the map - the bits called itineraires?

Cheers!

The itineraires descendant are sort of downhill xc, there are also waymarked xc routes and you can buy a pack of them at the tourist information. The proper downhills are graded at bit different than most places though and I would not take a relative beginner on the red or the blue called Izengard.

Apparently Ax les Thermes is pretty good as well but never been to ride.
