What are the queues like on a wknd with the new social distancing rules on the vans?
Cheers
Yep - worked very well. Apart from the first bus of the day, we didn’t queue at all. System works well on the Sat we went about 3 weeks ago
Excellent, cheers
Think social distancing must be in place on the car park, either that or nobody can realistically judge how far to park from another car without white lines...
Went a couple of weeks ago and the parking was a right pain, never had an issue before. Bloody big lifestyle vans everywhere taking up loads of room. I ended up halfway down the entry road in what should probably be a passing spot.
The uplift works well, never had to queue long last time i was there, you do get the 4.5hour shift though, so they've split the numbers into AM and PM shifts, actually found the 4.5 hour was great, just enough time to get knackered and get loads of runs, then stop for dinner and if you have any energy, do a bit of sessioning on one bit.
As above though, parking is a nightmare if you arrive late, if you're uplifting you'll be there early anyway, but the amount of e-bikes hitting BPW now is manic, parking struggles due to this i'd say.
Yeah I went the weekend just gone (Saturday) and did a ride / push up for the day. Car park was carnage - I got in a spot by the side of the road going through all the various car parking bays but my mate ended up in a slightly dodgy spot near the exit. Hordes of massive vans - like long wheelbase / high top types of things rather than just your standard T5 sort of thing. My advice is get there early. I’d say I’ve never seen so many cars / vans / people there.
We went past the uplift queue a few times and it didn’t look any worse than normal - we cycled partially up the uplift fireroad at one point and there were very regular minibuses running and it looked like they were at half capacity from the number of bikes on the trailer. To me it looked like they’ve widened some of the uplift road and had a go at compacting down the surface so the vans can go faster without having to let each other through.
Lots of beginners on some of the trails going really slow on slightly inappropriate bikes for the speeds / terrain at BPW. Luckily the reds generally were clear of them though as I guess they’re quite difficult.
Another option is black mountain cycle centre - we went there the day before BPW and used the uplift - didn’t wait more than a couple of mins all day. Much quieter and more relaxed than BPW - I prefer the vibe there. Some creative positioning of people on the trailer to make it more Covid friendly - some seats are now between the bikes on the trailer!
Post covid? This is 2nd thread seen with this in title. We aren't nearly post covid - deaths may be reduced but the case numbers remain elevated, and that mentality is only going to make the predicted winter surge as bad as forecast.
Yeah, post 'lockdown' not post covid!
2 more days of quarantine and I'm free again...
It was fine, loads vans on.
No waiting (Friday)
Only problem was it was hottest day of the year.
Anyone been to BPW post COVID?
We are not post COVID and won’t be until a vaccine comes out.
I can’t believe people even want to get on a bus with other people who are hot, sweating, breathing heavily, and from different parts of the country. Just idiotic
Im sure the OP didn't actually mean post-covid but we all know what they meant, lets not start berating someone for what is a mere expression which seems to have replaced post-lockdown.
Im going to BPW on the 19th Sep, as they change the am/pm shift to all day on the 12th, i think, so you get a full day of uplift.
From what i gather queues are about the same as they were pre-lockdown, think there are plenty of vans on but to help with the distance i think they are only letting half the normal capacity on with face masks to be worn.
The guidance from BPW is that if you feel unwell don't attend, but obviously this will depend on the individual.
And in regard to the comment about not believing people want to get in a van with others who are hot and sweaty, its a fair comment however everyone has a different attitude to the virus and you can't expect others to share your views, everyone will make their own mind up about their level of acceptable risk.
Some may look at my attitude to the virus as too complacent and laid back, however given the fact that my wife is a paramedic, and my son goes to a nursery attached to the local hospital with all the other hospitals staff's kids and he never stopped going over lockdown, then i am far more likely to pick the virus up from home then i am out and about.
Plus BPW is an awesome day out, so why wouldn't i enjoy myself while i can, if i get the virus i may never get the opportunity again, alternatively i could get hit by the number 5 bus tomorrow.
Lifes for the living, even in a covid filled world.
It seems car parking is an issue for all trail centres at the moment as we are all advised to take our own cars now rather than 3 or 4 mates all jumping in the same car/van.
I'm there next week so pleased to hear it is running smoothly.
I do get the risk argument, but then everything is a balance of risk at the moment.
Sitting in a minibus for 10mins >1m away from anyone else whilst wearing a mask and eye protection is probably low risk, certainly compared to some of the pubs and restaurants.
Yes you can avoid any form of contact but in the balance of U.K. economy vs short term Covid risk I think activities like this aren’t outrageous.
I’m going to BPW in Nov
BMCC is an open air trailer if people fancy uplift but don’t fancy being in an enclosed minibus. Tbf there’s only so much social distancing you can do in a minibus with at least 8 people in.
I can’t believe people even want to get on a bus with other people [ ... ] Just idiotic
Everyone has a different view of the risk, no need for the name calling
Went the 1st or 2nd week it opened Prefered the AM PM System worked well - got 9 runs in was their early doors and on first and last bus of the morning , Cleaned up Off home Mint

+1 in the same situation as you minus the kid, partner is a clinical psychologist in a hospital. Im now at the point where i just want to live my lifeI wont go licking stuff in the supermarket, but the way I see it you can get busy living or get busy dying.
My only issue is I don't know where other people are at, I dont want to put them in uncomfortable situations. Had a mate my car last weekend and doubled checked he was ok with it. Madness that I felt I needed to ask a friend to check if he felt safe getting in my car.

So what should i do? Sit at home and fester, just because there is a chance that i may pass it on?
Bugger that for a game of soldiers. As long as i dont have symptoms im going to live my life, just like everyone else.
The moment i have symptoms i will be a good boy and isolate as required.

I feel the same, i saw some family last weekend who i dont see very often, and i had to ask "are you okay to shake hands?"
Its all very strange but i feel like i need to ask as everyone has different feelings about it all, the most important thing i try and do is not push my views on others if a mate doesnt want to get close or wants me to wear a mask around them, fine i will no bother.
Post? Hahaha

No, but cramming yourself into a bus with others probalby not a good idea. You could go for a pedal, ride your bike alone out in the open, and forgo uplifts for a bit?
You may be surprised to hear this, but everyone else isn't just living their life as normal.

It was already like that! I really like sitting with my bike, being hauled uphill by a tractor whilst watching the sheep farm pass by.

I don’t know what is wrong with you lot, if you think getting in a bus with a load of other people is a bad idea then don’t go to bpw and don’t get on the Bus. Don’t go near people.
Simple ain’t it?
You may be surprised to hear this but not everyone shares your views
I was there yesterday.
Plenty of vans on. We didn't have to wait at all at any time - literally straight on to the van each time.
Managed to get a total of 11 runs in which felt like a decent day out. (Only my second ever visit to BPW so not sure what others would consider reasonable).
Covid rules were being strictly enforced - to the point where people trying to use Buff's as face masks were asked to leave the van before it set off.
One word of warning - it might just have been because it was a wet weekday, but the cafe was closed, with just a kiosk selling pre-made stale sandwiches. No dirty burgers sadly.

To be fair i never said people were living their lives normally, i just said they were living their life, as in so far as they are all doing what they feel is comfortable for them.
You'd also be surprised to hear that i have been out for a pedal on my own out in the open, which is what i do most of the time, however there isn't masses of riding near me and nothing like Bike Park Wales.
Going for a cross country ride just doesn't get me all warm and fuzzy inside like a proper uplift day does.
Unlike your good self i am not pushing my views on anyone else - if you don't want to do it don't, but don't expect everyone else to share your view.

Good to know cheers, will make sure i take enough fuel for the day.

Yes but still require masks, in the outdoors, on an open air trailer.
No thanks, I went there and ebiked up. Won't be uplifting again till the mask nonsense is dropped.
Haven't been BPW this year, the (further) jacking of prices since reopening while according to local mtb pages laying off a bunch of staff a month ago doesn't sit well with me.
laying off a bunch of staff a month ago doesn’t sit well with me.
Wasn't aware they were laying off staff, however given the current climate then I'm not surprised.
I don't mind paying a bit extra if it means that they stay open and dont go bust. Restriction in numbers of visitors and implementing covid control measures unfortunately means a higher cost for those that do attend.
Was there with the family a few weekends back. I think they are taking the social distancing seriously.
Cafe was open (for hot food and sandwiches). No issues with queues at all, on the uplift, the cafe, registration, etc. Car park got quite full though.

Is putting some kind of mask on that big a drama for say 10 mins at a time sitting on an uplift trailer? I just left my full face helmet on all the time and tucked in a mask to the sides of the helmet for the uplift section.
