LBS here seems fairly confident that they have enough in stock to see them through the winter.....

There is stock, just not much - setup stock alerts if theres something you need.

I regularly get emails from CRC relating to various decent shimano bits I've been slowly collecting, and the CRC stock alerts are sometimes indicative of stock drops elsewhere too.

XT M8100 mech and shifters are out of stock at CRC currently and were the same 6 months ago - that doesnt mean they've never had any, they just come into stock and sell out quickly.

Without trying to sink this glorious island, are you also checking European and US sites for stock? Is it worldwide or just in the UK on the sites you are checking?

Stock will be in short supply until at least mid 2023. Thats not to say there will be none, but you're not going to find it in abundance in any way like it used to be, so higher prices than maybe you're used to, and you won't be able to order anything in with any confidence on its arrival.

Yep, but im after brakes (XT 4pot) and i want Front Right Hand etc. Not the euro way round. Plus i can get them on our cycle to work scheme which is UK based (Cycle Solutions). When i ask them i get a standard answer which roughly translates to "**** knows"

STW article idea - some sort of comparison between all the various selling sites online stock indicators.

When 'in-stock' can mean:
"in the warehouse, despatched tonight if you order before 3pm"
or
"our suppliers say in stock probably, estimated arrival 2023"

I see it as deliberate manipulation of Google shopping results. If there was a list of sites that played it fair, I'd happily go to them and them only.

Madison have some Shimano stuff in stock. Which means any bike shop that sells Shimano will be able to order it.

Discount-bike.de have Shimano brakes in stock. They are set up Euro but the hoses will ned shortening anyway, no? Just swap the levers as part of the job.

My LBS (which I try and support as much as I can) said that they were taking orders for next year for Shimano stuff so took the plunge with the above.

Prepare for a VAT spanking though. 20% of the purchase price means not a mega bargain but still a fair price.

The XT 2 pots I bought from the Discount.de came fully assembled. Bought as a set (front and rear) for more discount too. Disks and adaptors bought separately, natch.

I ordered a pair of new XT 2-pot brakes in March and they arrived in July. UK LBS ordered for me. Came in proper Shimano box. Caliper connected to hose, but lever unconnected. All fully filled with fluid and bungs in-place in cable end and lever end. Did not come with the 2-part plastic 'tool' to hold the cable to help with cutting / fitting barb, but does come with olive already in-place in the lever end. Barb is separate, so you have to fit that yourself after trimming hose to length.

None of the Shimano brakesets I've ever bought came like this, always fully connected and bled but it's an easy job to swap/shorten hoses

Yep, last few I've bought, XTR and MT400 so both ends of the spectrum, came like this - as above bungs in lever and hose, olive in lever, cut hose knock barb in etc.

yeah, this is what I was talking about, the 'easy hose' system. It may vary where they come from though, as I've only got experience from Madison. That was a 'complete bled set' too.

The Slx and xt 4 pot brakes I bought last year all came as described above.
Calipers connected to a bled hose with the lever not connected.
There's a little rubber cap on the hose to keep the fluid in.

The slx 2 pots I got from merlin in July were like this too. Capped off hoses and separate levers. Can’t remember if they came in a proper box.
I may need a new mech soon and last time I looked CRC had deore 12 speed for £65 and bikester had the 11speed version for the same mech for £43. It seems that supplies are dribbling through but you have to cast the net wide
