Hi,
I'm looking at these bikes as an option, but as usual I'm between sizes at 5'10" or 178cm. My inside leg is about 31" and their size calculator recommends 18" (they only do 17", 19" or 21").
The 17" seems like it's got a good reach, but the top tube seems short at 601mm (my large Capra is 606mm top tube and 445 reach). The seat tube on the radon at 433mm sounds very short for a medium and don't really want loads of seatpost sticking out. The 19" radon seems like a longer reach, but has a very high stack.
Radon themselves have recommended the 17" for "sporty/trail" riding and the 19" for "touring" whatever that means lol.
Does anyone my size have one? Particularly around the Cannock chase area, and maybe meet up so I can have a look? Thanks
2019 / 29er Swoops are brand new.
Guess not a lot around yet...
Good luck!
Do you feel like you need to be more stretched out when seated? If not, the ETT measurement is fine at 4mm difference unless you want to run a shorter stem.
Longer reach has its benefits and drawbacks and this ties in with stack and HA as well so there's no right answer to suit everyone.
For me, wheelbase was my limiting factor as i like a slack HA for local riding but it's also tight and twisty and my riding style doesn't suit a really long bike. Reach on my new bike is thus in line with mainstream brands rather than the likes of Cotic & Pole.
433mm ST is not particularly short. I'm closer to 32" inside leg and my next bike has a 419mm seattube. Coupled with shorter cranks and longer droppers then the shorter the better imo!
I'm edging towards the medium really, as I think the wheelbase and reach are right for me at that size. I test rode an S2 stumpy Evo the other week which had an effective tt of 599 and reach of 445 and felt too cramped when sat pedallung. I'm happy with my Capra sizing, so I think the medium is the closest to it whilst still being able to chuck the 29er around a bit.
You could chuck a longer stem on to open it out a bit.
There should be a few bikes about with similar geometry that might be easier to test ride.
I only test rode 3 bikes but it was enough to confirm what I wanted geometry wise (and changed my mind on how long to go!)
