I'd love to fit a carbon fork to my frankenbike but finding a straight steerer disc fork is tricky.
The Chinese forks for £70 are tempting but I suspect they may be rubbish.
Anybody had experience with one?

I paid only slightly more than that for a set of carbon Boost forks from ebay, mostly because there was nothing else available at the time. They've been on and off the bike frequently over the past 3 years and I've no issue with them.

I did find an "identical" fork on a German site for about £350.

I've had a few over the years and used on various builds. All have been sturdy and have not broken or cracked. Currently using a Toseek (or something like that) branded pair on my bootzipper. I've ridden down a few rocky descents and touch wood they haven't broken. I'm not light so would say that I'm a good tester.

That Toseek brand is def on my radar as not "too" cheap!
How have you found the accuracy re brake calipers, etc? I don't want to be messing with something that's 3mm off!!

(my theory is that someone has t0 be making these forks for the big bike manufacturers - so why not go direct)

I've been using a Hylix one for over 4 years now. Not broke yet.

Toseek and Hylix used in anger here - no issues to report.

Got a Tideace MF004 (I think?) on my gravel bike with about 1200k on it so far. No issues at all. Cost about £80, can't remember if it came from EBay or Aliexpress.

I've had the same problem and been keeping an eye on the eBay. Finger currently hovering over the buy button for this...

Shady carbon forks

I wouldn't have any problems with those Hylix ones.

OTOH I've been after some flat, wide, carbon handlebars and really can't see me buying the cheap Chinese ones at £30.

That's the same seller I bought off 5 years ago (just searched my emails) so any dodgy forks and bad feedback would be pretty clear by now.

No issues here with brake calliper alignment.

Good help! Cheers! I've ordered them so we'll see in 4 weeks, or so!

I've got some toseek forks on my fatty. IIRC they're what used to be "carbonzone" which were always well recommended.

I'd go with the assumption that any deviation will change the handling, but not really by enough to actually make it significantly better or worse. 15mm changes the head angle by about 1deg, and 15mm is quite a lot. About 8mm of offset had the equivalent impact on trail, again you won't find many forks with more than a few mm off the original value.

Hylix fork user here.

Ridden so hard I snapped my headset cup.

I did have an issue with the top of the steerer going soft....but I cut that off and took out the spacers.

Been grand for 10 years or so.

Bought some Toseek ones from eBay a couple of years ago for the kid's bike: steerer had a massive seam on the inside so the bung wouldn't drop in. They suggested that I file away at the inside to remove it which I wasn't impressive with, took a bit of a fight to get a return/refund (they originally offered 25 quid and keep the fork).

The rest of the fork seemed good, light and well made, but the knackered steerer made it look like I'd bought a QA reject. So inspect whatever you receive well.

Just thought I'd update.

The forks I ordered (link further up) arrived just now. They look solid, no obvious flaws or molding marks/flashing, seems straight. Nice internal routing for disc hose, mounts for guards. Advertised as not needing a crown race, but does actually. All seems good!

Come in at about 510g with full steerer. Didn't get pulled for duty, which was odd.

Think I'll spray them up with Spray Bike rattle cans. Anyone got any advice for spraying carbon?
