Camping near Ales. Looks like mtb heaven. Any experiences to relate?

A few years ago, stayed just North of Ales. Seemed to be not much 'legal' stuff but a bit of an explore in the hills above the huge reservour north of the town lead to some pretty good rocky twisty trails in the woods.
There's a shop just on the outskirts of town, a fairly new one at the bottom of a hill that looks like a proper Yorkshire slag heap. They were very friendly and invited me on a ride, but having seen how fast the old guys were on their evening road ride I politely declined!!
Road riding excellent, and it is such a beautiful area.
