...Genesis day one alfine? The NHS trust I work for has just merged with another trust that operates the ride to work scheme, which has finally made me think 'oh go on then'. I'll be using it as an all year round do anything bike, commuting most days via the trans pennine trail which runs just past my front door, so nothing too technical. Any advice / comments would be much appreciated.

I've got a day one SS with mini v brakes. I use it for the same puposes as you and really like it. The only bad point is the paint on mine is very brittle/soft and comes off far more easily than I'd like.
