2 months ago I bought a Giant Trance x3 from Formby Cycles. 7 weeks later, after having to chase them for updates at 5 weeks and then again 2 weeks later I'm told my order is now not going to be in stock for another 2 weeks at least!

I cancel the order for the Giant and ask them to send me a Lapierre X-Flow ASAP as I'm rapidly growing old. As usual no contact from them so I call to find my bike is now just sat in their warehouse so they promise to set it up and send it out for delivery the following day - Great!

Recieve a call at about 5pm to tell me they have sent my bike but forgot to include the box of bits I will need to build it!

Receive a call 20 mins later from a different member of staff unaware of the earlier call to say that he forgot to pump my shocks up (as I had asked).

What is wrong with these guys? Is it just me or are they this bad with everyone?

BTW - My brother bought the same bike last week from Evans because Formby wouldn't get the bikes in for him to look at, their customer service was excellent & the bike was listed for £200 less! It at least meant that I could test ride his 🙂

No direct experience - I'm through Formby reasonably often and stop in there to get the odd little thing but that's it. Seems like I've read a few mediocre reviews here and there - I recall the place on Church Rd by the old Safeway used to be an independent place, but the current one is owned by a non-cycling parent company I think - maybe a DIY place? Not a reason to discount it but it doesn't usually inspire confidence.

I'm sure the bike will be great once you've got it - are you based round Formby? Bit of a Bermuda triangle for mountain biking IME - Always wonder where people ride round there.

We ordered a bike from them for Christmas for the daughter, then 6. When my wife went to collect it, a few days before the big man was due to come down the chimney, the frame was scratched more then you'd expect a new bike to be.

My wife complained of course as the scratches were down to the metal and they did replace it with a dearer bike for no more cash after a while...

Fair enough but I don't think they should have even attempted to give us the damaged bike in the first place really.

I also ordered a Cannondale from Formby Cycles before Christmas. It was listed on the web site as in stock. It arrived finally in the beginning of Feb. When it came it also was damaged. Derailleur hanger was bent. Top cap on lefty was scratched, the seat post anodizing was rubbed off and the brakes were out of adjustment and needed bleeding. After much reluctance they finally agreed to compensate me with a replacement seat post (Raliegh £11.00 on Wiggle), a water bottle, two sachets of powdered drink and a flyer for something or other. Today I tried to use the seat post and found it doesn't have enough adjustment to put the seat in a proper riding position. Apparently it's made for a bike with a vertical seat tube??
So yes, I've had issues with Formby Cycles and they won't be getting my recommendation or custom in future.

We bought two Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comps from them last summer.

Ordered on the Monday, arrived almost fully assembled and ready to ride on the Wednesday.

Couldn't have been happier with them to be honest. They were massively efficient in making sure we had our bikes in time for our trip at the weekend, and they were fully set up for us so we didn't need to do anything other than put the front wheels on and turn the bars straight.
(even set up the front and rear suspension based on our weight etc)

And they were cheaper than anyone else by some margin too.
