Hi all,
I've just moved to York and hope to be getting hold of my bike shortly.
A quick search of the forum has given me some spots to ride nearby (Yearsley and Dalby probably), but as I'm new to the area I don't know anyone.
If anyone doesn't mind me joining for a ride*, get in touch ( just bought a light, so night or day).

*Obviously socially distanced, depending on tiers etc.

Yearsleys ok but It's not big, Dalby's a trail centre so......, but luckily you're not to far from the edge of the NYM. I do natural stuff & there's loads of exploring to do between York & the moors & the worlds your mussel on the moors!
Except like now when It's mainly a bogfest.
I'm in Boroughbridge & It's flat as a fart round here.

That's grossly unfair essel. I mean there's absolutely an incline as you head up fishergate towards Appletons

Dalby has a good network of off piste if that's your bag.

A road bike or gravel bike is a worthwhile investment if you’re in York itself.
Road riding on a long day means a flat warm up followed by some decent climbs in the Wolds, Dales or Moors. A short day needs a little more care but a 45 milers from my door with a couple of thousand foot of climbing is doable.
Loads of local bridleways which are meh on an MTB but fun on a gravel bike.
And MTB - Dales, Moors, Peaks all an easy drive. Red Kite at Wetherby is worth a look once in a while (particularly if you find the excursions off the side of the route).
And if you have kids, see you at Clifton to get their strength and stamina up on road/cross bikes.

PS Sherwood Pines is also only just over an hour away but that’s somewhat tame.

What sort of riding do you like?

Yearsley is good fun but gets really boggy this time of year

Dalby has a good variety of trails, the blue/red/black ride pretty well all year. The off piste there is really good, little bit sloppy now but dries out quicker than yearsley

Stainburn has a couple of graded rocky trails and a few good off piste lines

Leeds urban bike park - shortish loop trails with some jump lines to play on

Grenoside/Wharncliffe in Sheffield is well worth a trip. Grenoside for the tamer trails, Wharncliffe has a bit of everything from mild bermy trails that ride well all year to steep rocky tech

Yearsley when it’s drier is great, helps if you’ve got a good level of fitness as there are really fun downs but the ride up is a lung burner... you’ll get fit in no time doing it a few times, pirate radio at the top is a great fun trail, quite easy to just session that before you go further into the forest. Trailforks and looking at the elevation can help you plan a route or use others rides.

I used to work close to there so used to go after work, but it’s an hour to there for me now, so Sherwood pines is closer to me... I went a while ago and was underwhelmed but they’ve done work up there now and it is actually a really good ride, it’s not hard but you get out what you put in.... if you potter round you’ll enjoy, if you smash the pedals in sections you’ll love it and there’s not alot of climbing either.

Still need to get to all the Dalby off piste as the few I’ve done are great, but not managed to find all the really fun stuff yet as not been back for a while.
Some YouTube videos like the one that was posted on here a while ago showcased some great trails! Few lads with lots of lights on their bikes shredding, made it look like alot of fun! Also just over an hour away Hamsterley is great too!!

Totally agree with everyone here though, Leeds Bikepark is brilliant as well, Sheffield too!
