I specifically wanted some genuine Shimano pads so bought these which appeared an amazingly good deal but riding them today I'm not convinced.
I'm now wondering whether the wording and images have been deliberately put together so you think you're getting the real deal but the Shimano part refers to the brakes themselves that they fit . Yes I'm cynical
Notice nowhere does it say the pads themselves are genuine Shimano.
The pads have no marking on the back and came without packaging.
What do you think ...are they likely to be just some super cheap Chinese crap or is there no way of telling?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173896419236
Not genuine Shimano pads, and reading the description the seller doesn't claim they are.
Not Shimano
On the other hand you have two sets of pads for 5.85.
Actually.. you're wrong ..it does say Shimano under "brand".
Not Shimano.
The price is one way of telling, for sure 😂 Definitely not genuine.
it does though, as mentioned above. Plus they shouldn't be using the logo. Complain to eBay about being sold counterfeit goods if you're bothered, you'll get your money back & they'll remove the listing.Notice nowhere does it say the pads themselves are genuine Shimano.
I actually bought 2 lots but the price is irrelevant..I wanted Shimano pads not a copy from God knows where that may lose a backing plate.
Looking back perhaps I was naive thinking they're genuine but the listing does in many ways attempt to give that impression and imho is misleading. It's not the end of the world ...just wanted to be 100% sure they weren't genuine as I may request a refund .
Out of interest how do you know for certain they're not genuine .. (forgetting the price )before I get involved in an argument about it with the seller?
Did you really think you would get genuine pads at that price?
Shimano pads have the material and part code on the back
e,g, M05 RESIN
& apart from the price I would suggest this wording is a giveaway:
Quality replacement pads for use with many Shimano disc/caliper combinations(see below).
These are highly rated
That alone would say to me 'Not Shimano'
Yes .I should have known but it is misleading and the brand is given as Shimano. I have bought very cheap genuine items in the past where the seller simply had lots of stock without packaging etc ..perhaps bought at an auction in box loads.
It is deliberately misleading without a doubt. Having the Shimano logo right under the image of the pads. Yes the price is too cheap but it is designed to mislead. Why not raise a dispute
TBH I'm just getting a bit fed up of buying stuff off eBay that isn't as described and the associated hassle of sending it back. I've only just finished a long drawn out dispute with a seller who showed a photo of a pair of boots that I knew were exactly what I wanted as I already had some. When the item arrived it was a cheap nasty copy and not what was listed. .Seems many sellers these days think they can do as they wish. Took a month of hassle to get my money back and an hour of queuing with social distancing only to find the returns label was out of date. Perhaps expecting to get what is advertised is unreasonable these days especially if the price is low.
Ive had good success in the past complaining that the item was not genuine and asking the seller ‘what happens now’ ?
Have had a good few sellers blaming their ‘new’ supplier and offering a refund or a replacement when they get legit stock.
“Replacement at same cost please buddy”
Had a few results with different items and I purposely look out for cheap fakes to try it on, I might lose a bit of time but never return postage unless the blaggard wants me to report to eBay.
Best result to date was a fake lifeproof iPad case bought for £15 and ended up with a genuine £70 replacement as well as the fake copy.
Scam the scammers 😉
Thanks mister P ...just couldn't remember. Anyhow..All sorted now..full refund, no sending back, no questions. He knows what he's doing.
I shan't pursue it further as it's not the crime of the century.
Make sure you leave feedback for other buyers so they are aware.
If someone in the car industry sold disc pads that were copies trading standards would be all over them but no ones cares about the bike world! Why is that?
Perhaps support your local bikeshop/workshop instead of trying to drive prices down to the bottom? And we know what comes out of the bottom don’t we!!
All sorted now..full refund, no sending back
If it was me, I'd try them in the back wheel with genuine pads in the front. If they hold together for the first hard stop, they'll probably be fine.
Hols....exactly what Ive done....seem ok at the back so far but wooden and noisy up front.
