Hi all-

On the off chance that someone on here has one and could check something for me....

Back story- child #1 has been out on hers, and came back home to report that something was amiss somewhere at the rear of it. On inspection, it seems that the threaded cap on the drive-side dropout, where the rear wheel stealth maxle would thread in, has parted company from the frame.

The part itself doesn't seem to be part of the maxle product (so buying a new maxle wouldn't help), so I'm assuming its part of the frame bundle. CRC are dubious, and not really helping.

So if you've got one- on yours, if you unthread the maxle, does this DS threaded cap still stay in place in some way, or does it immediately fall off?

thanks....

I'm almost certain that it's the same part that's shared between the escarpe, sentier and other models, and the threaded part is actually part of the gear hanger, which is kept in place by 2 bolts.

If the threaded hole falls out then the gear hanger will too. Unless it's actually broken of course.

And from the inside, you can see it's all one part:

On my sommet there is a grub screw that keeps the nut in place (as per the first pic above on the dropout).

Is there not one on the Sentier? If not I imagine it would just drop off if the maxle was unthreaded.

Thanks both-

Oddly, there's nothing on the dropout/mech hanger to prevent the maxle-cap just.....falling off, when the maxle is unthreaded.

At least the 2 hanger retention screws are still in place.

Good of you both to post photos- I think I'll just find an M12 coarse-thread pitch bolt of some kind for now.

Photos aren't posting, I'll try again in a minute

On this one, the cap has been lost even though the 2 x mech grub screws are still in place.

Ahh, I see - yeah that does look seperate to the gear hanger, mines never fallen out but then I only remove my rear wheel very occasionally.

Mine has the grub screw in the top of the dropout so if that's been lost that would cause it to fall out. No idea where you'd get a replacement of thread from!!

CRC have 'noped' to me already today, and sent me off to the manufacturer of the maxle. Who don't make them. A spot of googling tells me that others (with other brands) have had this problem, solution seems to be that M12 nut I mentioned earlier. Hey ho- thanks for the help, was very much appreciated.

Thread resurrection!!

Many, many thanks to CRC and their Vitus product management, who very kindly stepped into help.

Long and the short of it is that the new parts (locking cap and grub screw) have been received and installed, bike is back on the trails and Daughter #1 v happy.

CRC FTW đŸ™‚
