I'm really liking the 1.5 ply, relatively lightweight but pretty pinch proof clutch sx at the moment. I'm not enjoying the drag from the siped knobs and 50a rubber though.
Are there any tires out there with similar pinch resistance but faster rolling (like a nobby nic, though they pinch far too easily!)? What are the single ply wire high rollers like - they are heavy for single ply, does that make them as pinch resistant as the clutch?
The Butcher is faster than the Clutch if you want to stay with the SXs, and better most of the time (in the UK- Butcher not great in the dry)
The reinforced schwalbes seem pretty heavy and maybe not as tough as they should be- mine was fine but mates of mine have grumbled about punctures and cuts
I really like the Butchers on my Horsethief, seem to roll very well for a grippy tyre.
That's odd, I'm sure I heard somewhere that butcher sx was slower than clutch sx! when you say reinforced schwalbes do you mean snakeskin (I have pinched those loads) or one of their other "technologies"?
Supergravity is what they call it I think. (have you ruled out maxxis exo?)
It's not science but I've used the clutch and butcher sxs a fair bit and the clutch felt draggier for sure- Butcher is hardly quick, but it's pretty fast for what it is, the centre knobs are fairly close together and slightly ramped. TBH I just reckon it's a better tread all round.
Oh yes, I destroyed some EXO! But that was a kevlar single ply high roller/minion - I hear rumour the wire ones are more pinch proof. Which if true is odd, you think they'd make that a selling point rather than flogging them as a cheap version.
