Preferably without ruining either the post, the frame, or my state of mind!

Preventative maintenance and all that... use carbon paste... remove often.... only clean bikes by taking to dry cleaners.... don’t ride it when it’s wet....

+1 for the seat post man.

Not used him myself but he gets good reviews on here and I deliver to him most days and he’s a nice chap. Must be good as he’s been busy lately!

Loosen clamp, spray some releasing fluid around area then ride the bike, Your body weight should eventually push the post down. That's what I did and worked after a few rides.

@robbie - I've done that with a stuck dropped in a carbon frame. Worth a go first at least.

If it's really stuck you will need the big guns. See a post with that tool in every other week.

I'd try Penetrating oil left for a while, then heatgun on the frame, releasing/freezing spray on the post.

Happened to me when my 456 evo2 broke, it hadn't been out for quite some time, bike frequently put away wet / dirty etc.

I put spray, probably WD40, down the seat tube daily for a few and then took it to work and held the head of the post in a joinery vice while me and my mate pushed it in opposing directions at head tube / rear wheel...it eventually let go and neither frame nor post were any worse for the experience.

Definitely try some penetrating fluid, soaked overnight.

And why not a tin of freeze spray, as above.

Bought both from Screwfix when I had a seized bearing recently, only needed the penetrating fluid.

Penetration fluid sprayed on, left for the afternoon then after a few more subtle attempts...
Saddle off, block of wood on top of seat post, hit hard with the big hammer...

That got it moving and removed..

I decided it was probably safer for the dropper post to be fully down
But I seemed to damage the top bushing...
Removing that and gently sanding the damage down, working again, but should probably order a new bushing.
