I have couple of fatbike tyres to fit. They are very loose on the rim. The result is that on both sides of the tyre the bead is sitting quite a way onto the rim at one point on the circumference, whilst elsewhere it is popping off.

I know I could lube up the bead, but I'm worried it will be more likely to pop off.

Am I best to bulk out the rim bed with some foam?

Lots of turns of tape, or change of tyres.

What tyre and rim combo?  Some play together better than others. Are you using On One rims perchance?

I had a similar issue with a bmx tyre back in the day. Solved it with a strip of cardboard and sticky tape. Worked surprisingly well.

Tried the tyre lever trick to lift the bead up onto the rim before inflating?

I carry about "10" shoe laces for mounting floaters back on the rims, very light and does the trick, get funny looks mind but works.

I have mounted the front with using silicon lube, a compressor, 40psi, and a lot of holding-my-nerve. I'll need to let my bravery reserves re-build before I tackle the rear.

The front is now sitting at 20psi to mellow overnight.

I'd change tyres. If it rolls off its a horror show.

If it rolls off, it "might" be a new tube, and it "might" be a wonky seat on the rim until I can sort it.

This morning it was evident that last night's antics had pushed the tube too far.  I put 3 wraps of 1mm foam around the rim bed, covered it in tape, and it worked perfectly.
