I usually head for Peebles or west to Newton Stewart with the MTB but any other ideas for somewhere as a base for gravel rides?

I was away for a weekend for my birthday last week and based myself closer to Girvan , good for the coast and about 35 minutes from Newton stewart . Best of both worlds as the hills between Girvan and Newton Stewart are nice.
